Ah ok then. I will just use my room for flowers, etc.

Hornets and Maneaters can spawn from a pretty small amount of Jungle Grass, it just won't be consistent/dependable for farming. If it's attached to and near your home, you might end up with the occasional Hornet bouncing through your halls. However, Maneaters are restricted to being attached only to Jungle Grass blocks.
P.S. How do you screenshot this game? I'm finally semi-happy with how my place is looking...
I've basically just been print screening and then using paint to get the screen. I tried looking to see if there was an official way to do it but nothing really came up.
When I do that, my Terraria monitor just shows as solid grey... I guess it may only work in Windowed mode (unless you're full-screen), I'll give that a shot.
it's F11 or F12, I forget which.
Also I finally got sunglasses and a wizard hat, fucking yay
I made my underground hellhouse just above the level that imps spawn. I've had tim spawn on me there some 5 times just while excavating and building. I got 4 hats off of him.
Whoever got sunfury on the first kill can suck it... it took me hours to get that damn thing.
I also made a jungle mob grinder, but it appears that either I'm the unluckiest sob (possible, see above), or there is some condition to the drop. I let bees and maneaters kill themselves in lava for hours and never saw anything but vines and stingers (4 stacks of stingers, woo!). This was a man-made jungle area near my spawn, not actually "in" the underground jungle. I don't think that would be relevant. My guess is that it was fixed so that mobs that die to lava no longer drop rare loot.
Yeah, Print-Screen can get pretty stupid in full-screen modes sometimes. Anyhoo, here's my simple little beachside castle beginnings... It looks nicer in the daytime but I was too impatient to wait for that.
I got my torch-lined beach entrance just off-screen to the left with my little bridge which spans a drop straight to my Demon Altar. Folowing the paths and bridges down there leads straight to the nearby Underground Jungle, through that to my Underworld (building a stronghold there next).
Just inside is my entry hall. My main workshop. My treasury below that (metals/armor/weapons/accessories). Above my workshop is my bedroom (decorative/building materials). Above my bedroom is my bath. Above my bath is my library. Past that is my more recent additions that I have yet to designate, but it will definitely get taller.
Past my workshop are my NPC rooms with their underwater windows (left: Guide/Nurse/Merchant and right: Demolitionist/Dryad/Armsdealer). Below the Merchant's room is my basement where I keep random crap and mob drops. Under the basement is my Glowing Mushroom farm and where I keep botanical/floral/fungal items. Lastly, to the right is my floating little corruption barge where I just planted some trees to corrupt (no reason).
I think my next project is either inhabiting the Underworld or building a large Underground Jungle of my own below the Glowing Mushroom farm. My only regret regarding building on the edge of the world like this is the fact that digging underneath the large amount of sand here and making it fall really fucks with the water levels up top, requiring that I fill buckets to even them back out after each building project. Flooding in this game is so much more dangerous and annoying to clean up than in Minecraft and I've made a couple screw-ups already when working on those underwater rooms...
Looking nice, makes me want to improve my house![]()
I mashed every function key and I rummaged through my game's program files and found nothing... ;/
When I did F12, it gives me message saving "Screenshot saved" and when I closed Terraria, I got a list of screenshots I had taken in Steam. F11 gets rid of your Inventory/HP/MP screen too.
You should be able to go into your Steam in taskbar (or go to the View menu in the client) and there should be a "Screenshot" option. Going there should give you a list of your games and then you can see your screenshots.
Yeah, my F12 screenshot works now... not sure why it did nothing earlier when I was mashing them all.
Just finished getting the back dirt wall out of my bunker house. Now the long process of getting supplies for the new wall. Just found out about the Terraria official forums' Trading section so I've basically been selling anything I have extras for in exchange for large quantities of stone backwall but that still doesn't really go that fast.
Image for anyone's interested at this point(it's about 4000x4000 though, so fair warning I guess):
Spoiler: show
I hate laying background walls down... almost as much as I hate trying to break background walls out. And that's going to be a lot of fun to fill in. Hahaha.
I just finished my artificial Underground Jungle which is only about 1 full screen below my Glowing Mushroom farm. It took a lot of careful explosive-mining to keep the water pools from draining to the bottom... and a lot of mud.
I think all I have left to do there (besides wait for the grass to spread and fill in) is to build a little safety shack in the bottom left corner or so, and to fill in any surrounding natural caves with dirt so mobs stop spawning outside the room.
I think I'm going to keep it all natural looking and not baby-proof it like I did to my naturally-occuring Jungle/Underworld like so:

I think mobs only spawn on the floor, even flying ones. I don't know that you'd actually get any jungle spawns in the bottom picture due to all the bricks. My guess is you'll only get skeles and slimes.
I think that was the point of all those? He said that was him baby proofing his natural jungle, which I think would include limiting the number of spawns that occur while you try to get around.
I thought he was making the pointy cactus-vines not grow.I guess you have a point in that he just wants the look but not all the other shit.
really like that castle. where'd you get all the books?
also like the DIY jungle. I might try that at some point.
I'm not too far in yet. just got my gold pickaxe and sword, and silver armor. also built a bridge to one of the islands in the sky (without a map, no less) and looted the hell out of it. although I read that meteorites can crash on bridges like that and end up giving out tiny amounts of ore, so I'm going to demolish that when I get home.
also made 30 buckets and went lava-hunting only to find out about liquid duping afterward... d'oh. and to top it off, I found out bosses aren't affected by lava... there goes that idea.
next up:
- build an arena for boss fights (lots of wooden platforms and hookshot targets)
- build a liquid duplicator/obsidian factory
- find a new location for my home base and rebuild
- get some demonite ore and make me a nightmare pickaxe
- hellstone, obsidian, dungeon, jungle, etc.
a couple questions:
- will NPCs relocate if I demolish their homes and build new ones?
- will NPCs move into unreachable rooms, like one that's floating off the ground?
thinking of building a floating city and using wooden platforms to get from building to building. should be fairly safe from zombies and the like. might even build my own floating island, actually.
Books are found in the dungeon, along with water candles (blue candles that increase monster spawn rates) and chain lamps.
NPCs will relocate if you delete the table/chair/light source, usually they'll move to a new suitable room at sundown. They don't need to be able to walk to the room either, they'll either teleport there once night begins, or if they're being sluggish you can quit and re-enter your world
