    A) The dungeon is full of books. There's probably 100 scattered around the area.
    B) They will slowly start to leave and look for a new house if their old living space is no longer functional. If you build a new one, they will move to that one.
    C) As far as I know, NPCs will basically teleport to their house when needed even if they can't physically reach it. You'd probably have to save and exit and reload and they'd be there.

Edit: As for meteors hitting floating islands, it's happened twice now on my worlds. It's also gotten terribly close to hitting the line between the two islands I had, which I promptly removed when I saw how close it was.

EDIT: BEATEN It was actually Mioko's screenshot (where all his NPCs were living in that same structure) that got me rebuilding a new "commune".

thinking of building a floating city and using wooden platforms to get from building to building. should be fairly safe from zombies and the like. might even build my own floating island, actually.
Not sure about the 2nd question, but yes they will relocate if you remove the criteria for their CURRENT house to be sonsidered a house. I had my Dryad move in WAAAAAAAAAAY the eff over by my jungle entrance, which was not ideal. I took off the door, took out the workbench, and added a room to my underground house. Save & Exit, and she was in my new room when i restarted my map.

thanks! that fits in perfectly with my plans, then. floating city's gonna rock. I don't know about anyone else, but when I first started, I had no idea what I was doing and just built a couple of crappy shacks so the NPCs would move in. now that I've got a handle on things, I'd like to build a real home base.

I think I'm going to completely wall in the guide, too (build a room with a door, then brick him in once he moves in). fuck that guy.

if only they would add glass background walls already. really hope thet get on that at some point.

Yeah, my "baby-proofing" is primarily so I can navigate easier and search for ores and jewels... and it's for looks. There's plenty of untouched areas of my natural jungle that I can visit if I decide my artificial jungle's spawns aren't abundant enough. Also, I mostly want to fill in the surrounding caves because I would prefer that no mobs at all spawn in closed off little air pockets, including Skeletons/Slimes.

I never realized how addicting building a house could be.

Just finished my house and I'm already trying to figure out new rooms to build, even though I already have rooms for my NPCs plus a few extras that I just designed arbitrarily. Looking at my WorldGen, I'm pretty sure I could fit at least 5-6 more rooms onto my main area with only minimal filling of massive tunnels I made early on to get other supplies.

As long as you don't actually remove the door (but just brick up the outside of it) that should work. If you take the actual door away he will probably take off. Wonder if I can create a room, let him move in, then add Jungle Mud to the floor and watch him deal with it.

Can't you just kill him with lava? Or do NPCs respawn? I've never even had one get hurt.

you can kill him with lava. and they are planning on making it possible to kill him via other methods, too (if they didn't add that with the last update?) the devs know he gets hate and they want to acknowledge that fact.

hmm... get all NPCs moved in, make sure there are no extra rooms, then line the floor of his room with lava... would he respawn and die in an infinite loop? because that would be awesome. either that or the jungle mud; in fact I think the jungle mud idea is better because you'd get to watch him be tortured to death by mobs. although they probably wouldn't respawn very often. hmm.

I have had a Goblin invasion kill the guide before. Eye of Cthulhu has killed him before too (since my 'arena' was near my first house) and he just shows up again later.

Haha yeah, I think you could just put a simple, maybe 3~4 block wide, pit of lava in his room and he would constantly kill himself when he wanders around. I don't think he would naturally respawn on top of the lava, but he would probably keep moving into the same room and eventually walking into it.

I had my garbage lava pit in my workshop and the nurse spawned there. She jumped in the lava and killed herself repeatedly till I put a ledge there to keep her out.

I may have found a slight design flaw...

Haha, that's awesome, I was always wondering how infinite water from the edge of the world might be, that could do some serious flooding. Get some dynamite in there :3

Oh, I have... not that particular dungeon, but that's like the third that I managed to spawn next to the ocean like that. The water isn't technically INFINITE, though. It will run out eventually, if you just pour it out. Here's a mapcap (I don't really like the mapping programs except for hilarious "projects" like this).

eye of ctulhu: down. then I was all excited to make my nightmare pickaxe, only to find out you need shadow scales. so I guess the Eater of Worlds is next. hopefully he's not too bad. I might try and make a phaseblade first, but mining meteorite ore with a gold pickaxe and no obsidian skull is annoying as hell. stupid meteor heads.

It's impossible to lose to Eater of Worlds if you really want to be lazy about it.

He will follow you after you die and never despawns, so if you have a space to fight him (preferably away from your base a bit so NPCs don't die), you can zombie him down. He's also not too bad if you actually want to fight him though if you watch the ground to see where he is, you can avoid him most of the time.

They may have changed something, but when I was first starting and only had a shitty pickaxe/sword, after he killed me a number of times he'd just die and not leave any drops for me.

I've heard both - that he does despawn after a while, and that he doesn't.

I'll try fighting him in my floating arena. hopefully he can jump high enough, it's only about 15-20 blocks off the ground. if not I'll figure something else out.

I also have shurikens and a flame bow, but I'd rather make and use the phaseblade. seems like it could do a lot of damage to him with its range. we'll see how I fare at meteorite farming attempt #2.
