I hear ya Mioko... I am the same way. Finally got the seeds planted. Turns out I was NOT clicking just above the pots and on the pots instead. I only have Blink and Day seeds so the rest will have to be found later.

I found a small cluster of 5 fireblossoms in Hell, I only managed to get seeds off of one because of the ash collapsing. I had to layer the bottom of it with stone before I set up my little lava catcher to harvest the bastard.
Moonglow seems to take much longer to mature than any of the other flowers. I've had two full harvests before one of the flowers were ready to blossom.
Made a new base on a 1.0.5 world. It's a tower with the entrance on top, and it goes underground. When I finished, I released it looked a set of cock 'n balls so I had to redo the shape a bit. The 7th bedroom for the Clothier always screws up my symmetry. I need to begint he process of moving everything over from my main save, but I think I should redo the interior a bit.
EDIT: Can you change the directory that Terraria loads the game saves from? I was wondering if I could use it with Dropbox.
WE ARE BUNNEHS!
I don't know that you can change directories but you could still use Dropbox to transfer worlds/saves at least. I do if i don't have my USB drive handy to 'sync' my game between work and home. I know that is still a bit of a pain since you have to upload the file each time. If you zip/rar the world and player folders they shrink up quite nice. Provided you don't have a huuuuuge world or several worlds in your folder.
I've had one Fireblossom bloom shortly after planting it, however, neither the ones planted along side it or it's replacement have bloomed yet. It's been over a week in-game.
I've added one more bucket of lava to the pool to make it even with the water pool next to it, so I'm hoping I didn't "break" it. I'd have to go and find more seeds. *shudder*
Luckily, I don't think Fireblossoms can be too submerged in lava. In fact, I think if any of them blossom at all, they are probably all fine (assuming they are placed in the same pool). They can, however, randomly take fucking ages to bloom. My first Waterleaf took probably over an in-game week to ever bloom.
It took leaving my game on for 4~5 hours in ridiculous-turbo-time-travel mode (glitch) to get all of my 9 pots of each reagent to be fully matured.
tbh, flower growing is kinda a mess. I think that the rules they have are fine for alchemy flowers on their native habitats, but if you're using pots it should get rid of all requirements for obtaining seeds. I'd like to see standardized growing times too, and not needing blood moon/lava/water for potted plants so you can farm more effectively.
This new alchemy update is excellent, loving every minute of it.
I'm pretty noob at the game, only just recently was able to finish crafting an entire set of silver armor, and some gold weapons/tools, I haven't found anything really exciting yet and only recently just dug my way into hell, which I can't seem to survive longer than 2 minutes in.
Growing stuff took me a while to figure out as well, and I can't tell you how long it took me to figure out how to craft a damned bottle of water to make some potions, but thats just me being a noob i guess.
The Guide was just patched to have a feature where you can show him any item and he will list all recipes it is used in. That might help you out~ :3
Is there any kind of collaborative BG server up somewhere? I don't want to host a public one and have some asshole come in with tnt and blow a bunch of shit up, but I think it would be fun to make giant random castles and shit with a bunch of other people.
Would anybody else be interested in this?
Yeah that is a really nice feature that I've been using a ton. The thing about the crafting a bottle of water was I made the bottle, went to a lake, and then put my cursor above the water, and it had a bottle icon as if i could just click it to fill, and that didn't work. I actually had to search online to figure out that you had to go to your crafting menu while standing near the lake to make it, i felt like such a tard. The Guide was just patched to have a feature where you can show him any item and he will list all recipes it is used in. I've been looking for a decent place to play, singleplayer is fun but it just doesn't have the same feel as running around with other people slaying bosses(or getting facepunched as I usually do)s there any kind of collaborative BG server up somewhere? A couple friends have the game but don't really play it anymore.
Oh yeah, I still think requiring to be standing in water for a recipe is kinda' awkward/non-intuitive.
How else are you going to get the water?! I had to look that up too though... was wtfing for 30 minutes trying to get it done.
I think you can be standing next to it... I accidentally noticed the water bottle thing right after the patch.
I think a project server would be fun. I can't seem to get a second server running. I've got both ports 7777 and 7778 forwarded to the server, and I'm setting up the second server with that other port, yet while the first server connects no problem, the second refuses to. Any ideas?
Are the herb gardens functional or just nice to look at? So far I've been unable to harvest anything.
From what I have seen with the herb gardens they are functional and self sustainable, if you harvest them at the right time. All the herbs in the game seem to be used for some type of potions.
I only have two types of plants, blinkroot and dayglow, however parts of each of those two plants glow when they are ready to harvest. I can't imagine it would be much different with the other plants.
Basically, if you harvest a plant when they are in that glowing phase, it seems that you are guarenteed to get at least one seed in addition to your herb, I usually get two or three from each.
However, if you harvest what looks like a mature plant, that is not glowing, it seems you get the herb, but no chance at seeds ever.
Granted, these are only my observations from two types of plants.
I can't seem to harvest things at all in a flower pot. Do you have to use a certain tool or something?
Yeah you have to use your pickaxe.
Each plant has 3 stages of growth.
1) planted: tiny stem (yields nothing)
2) grown: bigger stem but no flowers (yields only 1 plant)
3) bloom: glowing flowers (yields 1 plant + 1~3 seeds)
Each plant can get to stage 2 with no assistance. However, they all (other than Blinkroot) have a requirement for blooming and dropping seeds. Thus, you need to set up your gardens appropriately if you want it to become self-sustainable.
Blinkroot: N/A
Daybloom: Daytime
Moonglow: Nighttime
Deathweed: Blood Moon
Waterleaf: Submerged in water
Fireblossom: Submerged in lava
Thanks mioko, that will be very helpful when I find those other plants.
