Once you have nightmare picks, just bumrush hell to get enough hellstone for your molten pickaxes.

After the picks, you'll need some armor; I swap regularly between molten (approximately 9999 more hellstone blocks), jungle, and shadow scale. You'll want to make the molten hamaxes as well.

I'd go dungeon-crawling to get my muramasa, cobalt shield, etc soon too if I were you.

I was 100% Jungle Armor just for using Rocket Boots, but since they removed their mana usage, I've just gone to 100% Molten Armor for the defense/glow since the Underworld is genuinely difficult now... until I bother to make enough Battle, Regeneration, Thorns, Waterwalking, Obsidian Skin, and Ironskin potions to just go all-out on finding my Plumber's Hat and Demon Scythe spell.

    Dev post:

One of the biggest complaints I get about Terraria is the hellish nightmare that is Inventory Management.

As you can see from the screenshot, I've made a few changes that should help out quite a bit. The first thing you'll probably notice is the different colored inventory windows. This is something that has been suggested a lot. (Exact color scheme subject to change.) This will allow you to more easily recognize the different item areas on the screen.

There is also a new trash can "slot." This will allow you to retrieve the last item that you have thrown away. You can also store a 41st item here in case of emergencies, just make sure to put it back in your inventory before leaving the game.

When looking inside a chest or your piggy bank, there are two new options: Loot All, and Quick Stack. Loot All is pretty self explanatory, but the Quick Stack option should make hording all your goodies a much easier task. This will look through every item in your inventory that can be stacked with an item in your chests, and place it there. The idea is that after returning from an expedition you can simply run past all your chests and click the button to quickly store all your new items, while keeping them organized the same way.

Lastly, albeit a small change, items that are picked up will now be added to your inventory from the bottom right, instead of the top left. This should help to keep your personal inventories a bit cleaner by allowing you to keep the items you always carry with you on the top, and items that need to be sorted through and sold/stored/trashed in the bottom.

omg quick stack is gonna be tits... big fat oprah tits right thuuuur.

found my meteor, it was east of my spawn a huge ways. I got there and was able to mine about 20 meteorite before i was overtaken by the meteor heads. they are easy to kill but because of that they hit deceptively hard, i was just surprised i died so quickly. i'll have to bring some bombs with me on my next run out there.

does anyone else feel like the spawns in the corruption biome are tuned to a ridiculous level, it seems like shit spawns faster than the underworld. sometimes traveling through the corruption zone i had 6-10 enemies swarming me so i had to just stop forward progress and just deal with those bastards for like 5 minutes while they just keep coming.

To move around the easiest (including avoiding bitchy monsters in corruption), I slingshot myself to full speed with a door, then hover all the way across the map with a grav potion.

Once you get a solid weapon (Masamune, for example), it won't matter at all. You can just hold down attack and any of the mobs that get near you will just get dead.

that inventory stuff looks amazing, the quick stack is going to be really useful. What's that item 2nd from the left on the bottom row of his inventory, looks like some sort of yellow dust. I seriously can't wait for 1.06

edit: oh there's more, this is from Redigit too:
Other than a complete overhaul of the magic system, there really isn't anything too interesting to talk about right now. 1.0.6 will mostly be small tweaks and changes in preparation for the big 1.1 update.

I don't want to give to many spoilers, but there are going to be a series of events that add several new ores(yes, cobalt is one of them), a new biome that we've dubbed as "the anti-corruption," and at least one new boss. The entire world will be put in to hard mode, and fighting back the corruption will be a lot more involving/rewarding. You'll probably want to avoid this unless you don't mind the possibility of your town being destroyed during invasions. >

My overall goal for 1.1 is to add a lot more character/world progression and provide some actual end game content. Hopefully after seeing how it turns out, you guys will cut me a bit of slack for the rocket boot change, haha. This is all quite a ways out, though.

Sounds like a good reason to maintain two established worlds, a safe "base" world and a dangerous "frontier" world. Hmm.

Hopefully there will eventually be a way to travel between worlds that doesn't involve quitting to the title screen.

yeah i read that, and then climbed to the top of my tower, ran and jumped off, hit the up arrow and nothing happened. well.. .the game did say i left a small crater. and then a little while later after my potion ran out the game told me that i didn't bounce.

love the the new death messages. i figured out that up and down naturally meant w and s, don't know what i was thinking.

was wondering if you guys have been using the world view mapper at all? it kind of feels like cheating to know where everything is at, but it also feels kind of like a feature that was just overlooked not to have a map of any kind in terraria, even if it was severely limited in comparison to the world viewer.

Once I got all of the items I needed from the floating islands I never did again.

Never using a map makes finding a floating island quite the treat. Now that I have got everything from them, I plan on only making the ones I find Harpy-farming fortifications... even though getting up to them is stupid without building a big ugly staircase now.

I put floating wood platforms every 30 blocks or so to land on. They're not too obvious/intrusive. :-/

I'm still waiting on my teleporters!

To get to my airship I built a small ladder going directly up out of stone and platforms. Then I just took away the stone walls.

If you already have something at the top of where you want your ladder, just get a few stacks of sand and drop it all in a line. Then put your platforms where you want, and go to the bottom and remove all the sand.

Haha, yeah I wasn't expecting that either. I had like 3 Voodoo Dolls and I tossed two in my lava garbage pit. Poor guy.

Another small teaser, this time made by Blue.

    Spoiler: show
Good afternoon everyone. Thought I would take a moment and offer you a word from our sponsors... (chuckles) Naw, its just me. I'll be talking about a few things regarding Terraria today.

    Regarding Our Website
I've been doing some work making sure our website stays up to date, and Ive been sending information Redigits way to be added/updated on our website. So far I've sent him updates for our F.A.Q and Issues pages, since both have information from before release/updates. He should be able to update them sometime soon when he can take a moment away from coding. Also, I'm currently collecting a list of community sites related to Terraria to be able to add a page with links to all known websites that are focused on the game.

These would include communities of other languages, and also websites that offer good information on the game itself. Only sites with significant web traffic will be added. So far I have only been able to locate a few, so if you could please email [email protected] with YOUR (only if you run or moderate on it) community page information. I don't need to receive emails from every person who knows about a website I should add as my email box would explode. (Feel free to mention them in a comment here however.)

Also, I plan to gather some new images for our Media page as it seems rather bland and out of date. Also possibly make a fan art page to show off some of our favorite fan creations. If we decide to do that page, we would contact the fans who made the art themselves and ask permission to showcase their artwork.

    Mr. Fix-It
While I will not be giving away too many details about new features, as that is what Redigit will be doing when he writes up 'Part 2' of his 1.0.6 Dev-Blog, I will be sharing some of the bugs we have fixed since 1.0.5. Hopefully this will help the number of emails about bugs we've already fixed drop to a minimum.

Just a note. These fixes have been tested and seem to be working fine now, but may still have rare occurrences we have yet to be able to replicate. As with all bug fixes, we do not wish to promise an absolute fix, only to discover its still present.

Eater of Words message has been corrected when he 'flees'. He will no longer list as 'Defeated'.
Night Owl Potion has been given its effect.
Hot-keys for Mana and Healing Potions now work correctly with Rejuvenation potions.
Dungeons should no longer spawn in the ocean.
NPC's who are far from home and attempt to return home, will no longer 'flip out.'

Of course this is not a comprehensive list, and there are more that have been fixed.

    Why Hello!

A couple weeks ago I attended PortCon Maine, and met up with a few fans at the convention. All in all, it was a rewarding experience and It was good to get feedback from fans in person. A few times I even heard conversation of Terraria before I even joined the conversation. It was a surprise to me how many Mainers (or people from other states who came for the convention) knew the game and played it so soon after release. Now about a month and a half after release, our community is growing steadily, and it's great to know people enjoy the game so much they tell all their friends about it.

This brings us a lot of joy here at Re-Logic, to know so many people have been entertained by something our studio has created. In regards to this, I am possibly also going to attend ConnetiCon this weekend to represent the game and spread word of it. I have yet to put down solid plans to go, but depending on where we are in regards to 1.0.6, I may attend.
It's almost three times the size of PortCon Maine was, and If I do go, it would be great to talk to any fans I may run into again. So maybe I'll see you there! Hopefully someday I can convince Redigit to attend a convention as well.

    Its too quiet!
On a side note, without revealing too much, we have been working to add sounds to the game in places they were missing. Some enemies will gain the sounds they were lacking, and certain events, like talking to an NPC will become more prevalent. This should make the game have a bit more immersion than it already does.

    Wait did he say something?
As always, I leave you with an image, to completely make your forget what you just read and create a splurge of speculation about what the image means!
