Definitely looking forward to the update, but like Mioko I'm also looking forward to Starbound. I'll take whatever I can get as soon as possible though!

This. And I don't really trust Redigit's work ethic.

Yeah, "Oops, wife is pregnant, thanks for the money everyone, but I'm done with Terraria." Other dudes were left with nothing and had to move on... now he comes back to Terraria with his own art crew. Sounds like he was running out of money.

I'm just psyched because I already own Terraria. Starbound just feels so far away :/

Were there any mods worth playing or anything? Gf and I were wanting to start a new game this weekend and I had heard at some point people put out mods to freshen up the game a bit.

I've heard of a few but haven't found any myself personally, there was one made by HERO I'll see if I can find.

Avalon and Omnir's modpacks are the two biggies I'd say. Obsidian mod is popular but the mod author hasnt updated to more recent tconfig versions, which limits its use with other mods.

Any recommendation on which "overhaul" mods are best for a fresh experience? Played this a long time ago and didn't know anything about the mods. Now that I see there are so many out there, I'm wondering which are considered the most popular/best experience.

I looked at both Avalon and Omnir and both seem to be good, but not liking the last boss idea in Avalon of it killing your character or burning your world. Oh, Pickaxe+ looks kinda nice too.

Looks like there is a more comprehensive list of what the update will include according to conversations people have had with Redigit in IRC.

Looks like a lot of great additions, but I know some others have expressed concerns about his work ethic which I hope turns out to not be a big deal.

I don't understand what he's getting out of this work though. It's great to get more content for free but where is the incentive for himself and his new art team to put the time in to add this content?

Either way, looking forward to new content to consume!

I think this is just the first step to getting Terraria back on the map so they can make some more sales, have an audience for DLC, or possibly advertise his next project.

The maker of avalon decided against the world ending final boss, at least for the moment. lol

Omnirs modpack is probably the more unbalanced of the two, although most of it is in the monsters favor until you get the super duper final armors, assuming you manage to actually kill one of final bosses and craft em. mediumcore with omnirs is BRUTAL, especially during bloodmoon. Nothing like having your base stormed by blasting (if you choose that version) Tibetan dragon lords, bomb slimes, giant pelican spiders, and gods know what else with 500-4k hp each.... when you start out in the game. Some of the enemies during hardcore mode have like 20k+ hp lol. I will admit though I'm having a blast playing avalon and omnirs together, even if every few nights i'm greeted with "psions plead for death was answered by Giant spider matron" or the like.

I think they see that Starbound is getting close to completion on top of PC users being extremely unhappy that consoles were getting this game along with an update. Starbound actually just put up a road map for the game which is a little disappointing as the game was supposed to be released almost a year ago, and it appears there is still LOTS to be done.

The Starbound guys set a lofty goal for the game from the start that I think people are going to lose interest before they can even get their hands on an alpha build. I know I've stopped checking their site a while back because I was tired of only seeing wallpaper art and the occasional random sprite. They should have planned their roadmap in such a way that they could get a basic, functioning version of the game in people's hands as soon as possible. Now it's just become something I am trying to forget about until I get to fiddle with it.

Sounds like what I had to go through when I was excited for Little Big Planet to finally get released.

Funny you mention that. Starbound has a roadmap up now. Sadly still no release date until "2013".

And updates look nice. Though I wish they'd take from the console version. I'd kill for a world map.

Unfortunately, Starbound had to be announced super early because of some infringement upon the name. That's why it seems like it's taking forever when it is actually probably taking the normal amount of time. I just wish they wouldn't have strung it along saying, "We'll be out in summer 2012!" when they aren't even close.

But yeah, Terraria. Loved the game and would love to reroll on a new update.

True, it is pretty far off. However, I'm willing to wait as long as the crew doesn't pull a Re-Digit out of their ass.

So with my new PC built (but without a graphics card yet), I've been sinking some time into this after really wanting to play it after the PS3 demo.

I've started with a large world, and my hellevator is about half done, and I'm considering building a skyway.
I can't find the info, about how many blocks deep is a meteorite crash site/ore conversion? I know that if I make a too shallow skyway I'll miss out on ore, but I have no idea how thick it'll need to be.

(Also, as I was working my way down, I found enough gold to make a pickaxe, and I got a godly mod right off. >.>)
