    bottled water... in aluminum cans?

I have been asked to help my stepfather find out if there is a company in north america that is selling water in aluminum bottles or cans, instead of the typical plastic ones like a dasani or fuji or whomever uses.

The bottles would be like the beer bottles they sell and have at sporting events and the like, not just a reusable empty bottle for hiking.

Has anyone seen something like this in stores in your area before?

    Thanks!

I will keep an eye out when I go to the grocery store tomorrow, but off the top of my head, never seen anything like that here in LA.
It only comes in plastic, and the fancy stuff sometimes comes in glass.

Alcoa, the large aluminum company in pittsburgh was asking him about it, and i'm not sure why they don't know themselves. But they hate plastic water bottles

    lol, big business fight.

Though, I can see some of the logic to it. I don't actually know, maybe someone else on here does, but I'm guessing, aluminum is easier to recycle than plastic?

I remember Dasani used to have their water in cans. Haven't seen it forever.

lolyahooanswers but supposedly the guy replying is in the beverage industry and talks about aluminum cans for bottled water. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/in...9103859AAAWcvE

TLDR: Because you can't see the clarity of the water, most people don't buy it. Also there are people that don't understand that the manufacturers spray a chemical in the cans to prevent the taste of the metal from getting the water. Those will be the hardest stepping blocks to overcome.

I would suggest advertising or something on the can explaining some "revolutionary technology" that prevents the water from absorbing tastes and guarantee it's freshness. Promoting the ease in which you can recycle aluminum could pique the interest of others. Personally I liked the cans of water they used to sell better than the bottles because the water tasted fresh, not like plastic.

I would also think that it failed because this was a time right when bottled water was becoming popular and people didn't justify spending the same price on a can of soda vs a can of water. Of course the scene is different now so it could work. I'd buy them over the crappy thin plastic bottles if the price was right.

I've never seen it in stores, but several major airlines (their regional subsidiaries, to be specific) regularly use canned water instead of bottled during beverage service on-board.

I don't fly anyone else, but I know Delta uses mini plastic bottles of Dasani, haven't ever seen the cans.

I work at wholefoods market and there is a brand of water that we have that is in a reusable aluminum can. I can't think of the name off the top of my head but I know we have it.

I'll check tomorrow when I work.

Aluminum is the only commonly-recycled material that's actually efficient to recycle.

Deer Park & Nestle do have canned aluminum water. But its mainly for emergency relief programs. I don't know if you can buy it in bulk though from the manufacturers.

    Well there you go.

    Spoiler: show
It's fuzzy, but I think I remember from primary school that oil to plastic is a one way process, you can't turn it back and redo it.

Glass, I actually have no damn clue. But I remember reading something about people bitching about sand/silica supplies, so I'm assuming it's not possible or really troublesome to separate/melt/re-blow etc.

Aluminum is just a metal, melt that shit back down.

    plastic isnt exactly healthy either.

In addition to creating safety problems during production, many chemical additives that give plastic products desirable performance properties also have negative environmental and human health effects. These effects include

    • Direct toxicity, as in the cases of lead, cadmium, and mercury
    • Carcinogens, as in the case of diethylhexyl phthalate (DEHP)
    • Endocrine disruption, which can lead to cancers, birth defects, immune system supression and developmental problems in children.
    http://www.ecologycenter.org/factshe...theffects.html

plus not listed here, it can fuck with a guy's testosterone levels. Hence why all plastic bottles say "do not reuse" shit gets worse if you reuse the bottle.
