LOL. You think this is actually really passed by the Texas legislature?
Nope, think again.
The larger problem with any of the crazy legislation here. Half of the people there aren't voting or are voting for other people, outside of party lines.

Just wow at that video...
I love when she tries to justify it at the end. "Sometimes, we don't take lunch breaks! Even dinner breaks!"
Of course! Now it makes perfect sense why it's ok to steal votes. God, I feel so bad now. Just awful. I really feel for her--having democracy getting in the way of her poor, rumblin' tummy. That poor, poor woman. That steak that costs more than the average paycheck of one of her constituents that a lobbyist was going to buy her would have really helped. But noooOoOOOooo, she had to do her stupid, pesky job she was elected to do.
So if they had to provide centres promoting hetrosexuality then UNiversities could just have a centre that gives out real information on safe sex, hands out condoms and provides information on abortions.
If they were restricted to "traditional values" then they would have to have a centre that produced "how-to" phamphlets on subjects like getting your underage 1st cousin pregnant.
Either way looking at the video above it looks like you could get anything passed in Texas, especially if the vote is at the same time someone goes around the chamber with coffee and sandwiches.
This is a very common talking point about amongst the right-wing isn't it? For example, on the topic of evolution, they talk about "leveling the playing field", "teaching the controversy", "combatting liberal bias". They do this when it comes to programs that help low income minorities and how it is unfair to white people. It seems like the basis of the argument is creating a false equivalence between two issues, and framing one side as the left wing, and their side as the right-wing version. And somehow, the right thing to do is somewhere in between.
So this is what "reaching across the aisle" means
Debbie Riddle, she votes 4 times and doesn't a break for anything.
Well done sir.
I'm shocked, but then again, I'm not at the same time to be honest. I don't know which is worse: people voting like that or the pure laziness in the representatives that I voted for simply not showing up and making it a common practice.
However, I would love for the legislation to let me inside for a full day so I could ninja-add an ID scanner to their voting machine just so those fuckers can get a taste of their own derp.
You know what I find funny? Perry blames the Dems for the financial mess we're in, and the fact we had to dip into our "Rainy Day Fund" to help meet our budgetary goals for Texas, and gnashed his teeth while accepting Federal money from Washington to help with the budget deficit. Guess who has been our wonderful Gov. for the last 10 years? Rick Perry. Perry wanted to pass some ridiculously stupid laws like make pregnant women who are contemplating an abortion watch an ultrasound and listen to the heartbeat of their unborn fetus - while on the same hand, deny those children who are in Texas access to a quality (lol) education by taking funds away from the schools. Oh, so it's ok to protect and nurture kids BEFORE they're born, but after, fuck them, let's make it tough for 'em to get insurance, and education, and all kinds of shit!
Perry has nobody to blame but his party, and himself for the budgetary mess we're in, seeing as he has been in office for the last 10 years. He could have prevented this from happening, and the most curious thing, when the debate between himself and White happened, he kept sidestepping the budget/tax issues because he KNOWS they were his fault.
Perry is just an idiot. A FLAT OUT IDIOT. I'm still pissed off at him signing a bill that increased the business tax for small business owners (I'm one myself) which really hurts, because it makes it way harder for us to stay in business. (The tax I'm referring to is the small business franchise tax.) Small business owners are already struggling in this economy, and now we're expected to take on additional tax burden? We have to increase prices just to stay in business, and it hurts our customers, and makes it even harder for us to work.
Let's not forget that gem of the Trans-Texas Corridor, which is deader than disco - and it's also Perry's brainchild.
HPV Vaccine that he wanted to force on children below the age of 6? That had special interests written all over it.
All this anti-Washington rhetoric? That Washington should meddle out of state business and affairs? I'm gonna laugh so hard if he runs for President, somehow wins (yeah, sure), and tries to meddle in the affairs of every state in the union.
Perry's stupid. Plain and simple.
Wasn't there a cover on Newsweek about how white people are suffering the most or something? White males to be exact.
I think I remember seeing what you're talking about, iirc it was about how average white males have lost the most jobs in the recession. Which is pretty herp.
probably because they had the most jobs before the recession
and pretty much all the best/highest paid of the middle class ones
