    Laptop card running hot

So my laptop has always run hot, but lately it's seems like it's running a hell of a lot hotter than normal. Laptop is about 2years old, ASUSG51x and I used to attribute it running hot because I was always 2boxing. Now that I've come back from my XI break, I notice it's running hot all the time with just once instance up, so I'm guessing it may have been like this the whole time. Average temp when XI is open ranges from 89~101C and it idles near ~60C; playing Minecraft last night it went up to ~95C as well. If I keep it battery saving mode it will run less hot over time, but it will still peak up. If I put up in high performance I've seen it go near the 103~105 mark and it runs 100+ constantly. So is the card faulty/going out or is there something else I can do to quite/cool this card down?

I could have bought an 11 pull and have 1000 gems left over, but all I got was this silly title.

Sounds like the laptop is in need of new thermal paste and cleaning. Had that case when running borderlands with my G73 and an airduster in the vents cleaned it out and brought my peaks back down to 80-85C down from 100C+.

Suggest trying to dust your computer out with some air canisters, may need to open it up. Then think about repasting since that's a lil more difficult job.

Are you sure you don't mean F? Usually your thermal sensors will shut down the PC once you hit 75 or so. Most chips sustain damage when they top 90, and transistors will melt over 100C.

And yeah, make sure your fans don't have dust in them, put in new thermal compound, etc. Even elevating it slightly to allow better circulation underneath is not a bad idea if it doesn't move much.

Speedfan was clocking it 98/99C earlier. I've clocked it a few times with GPU-Z which I'm fairly certain also reads C.

Before you try applying new thermal paste, I'd suggest giving MSI Afterburner a try. It allows you to adjust the fan speed of many video cards. You can even set up profiles so that the fan will speed up automatically during games. It's a lot easier then trying to open up a laptop and apply new thermal paste.
