WATS GONIG ON IN HER LOOL
So even though Anon denied this attack being them, it is.
http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/...presentatives/
Edit: We also informed the subcommittee of the following:
Sony has been the victim of a very carefully planned, very professional, highly sophisticated criminal cyber attack.
We discovered that the intruders had planted a file on one of our Sony Online Entertainment servers named “Anonymous” with the words “We are Legion.”
It most likely wasn't a 'condoned' action by Anonymous as a whole, but that doesn't mean people affiliated with them wouldn't do that on their behalf.
Or just that whoever did it wanted to throw the investigation off.
Kind of odd how Anonymous was all like "we don't want to hurt the consumers" and yet this happens and it causes the PSN to be down for weeks. It may not be them and can just be Sony putting the blame on somebody since "somebody" has to take the fall for this. It's not like they didn't have it coming w/their threats to Sony
I wouldn't be surprised if that file was on there from the first attack and they only now just found it. I'm not keen on anon, but typically it seems if they are not involved, they really are not involved. I just have a real hard time believing sony right now. They could show up at my door with a certified bank check for 1 billion dollars and say I won and I'd probably call them a liar and slam the door shut.
Spoiler: show
Anonymous is a banner, not a club where the members know each other. If someone reads 4chan and/or frequents one of their IRC hangouts and sets out to sabotage corporate networks, they're flying under the Anonymous banner regardless of the lulz/negative backlash it receives. There is nothing to condone or be affiliated with. Folks can talk all they want about 'Anonymous didn't do this' but there's no proof one way or the other. Anonymous wants the credit for the HBGary shit but washes its hands of the PSN/SOE break in/theft events? Get the fuck out of here lol.
Or it could be that the PSN shit wasn't really them like they said it wasn't and that the people that did it are trying to frame them? I mean who wouldn't want to target an easy scapegoat? Do you think anonymous would make their mark after millions in credit card fraud?
They're smarter than that and most people are just lemmings and will go along with it.
This was an inside job and a media stunt against anonymous imo, but we'll see what happens. Anonymous has LOTS of enemies
edit: although it is still possible there was a rogue member or two
Again, stop anthromorphizing Anonymous. It's not a fixed ideology or led by a shared set of values. It's just a label that's been used for improved, if ultimately empty, PR lately (see scientology/Quaddafi ops). When the edge comes swinging back the other direction on this whole 'anonymity' thing they have going it's a chickenshit bitchass dodge to say 'oh Anonymous had nothing to do with that they're the good guys in this fight.' There are no 'rogue members' when there is no organization to begin with. There was never anything official or unofficial about the chaos created under the Anonymous battle standard. We'll see, maybe, if the people responsible for the PSN/SOE data theft were motivated by the Anon call to arms, but the haste with which folks are concluding 'NOT ANON' is hilarious. I thought that was the point of Anonymous, that people never know one way or the other. Sony's blame game could very well be the correct move, whether or not it has any basis in fact.
The only evidence against Anonymous so far is that it was "very carefully planned, very professional, [and] highly sophisticated."
And the actual file name.
If you're part of an eastern european or chinese hacking gang and want to misdirect any attention if you ever get caught wouldn't the group that just threatened and DDOS'd sony be the perfect scapegoat?
I think it's pretty naive to claim that there aren't a few people in anon that "run the show"(not exactly but moreso the "educated instigators" is what I would call them). While everyone is pretty random I'm sure that there are a amount people that actually have an idea of what they are doing and instigate actions.(lets keep in mind that they are very disconnected in nature). In general, my interpretation is that anonymous is just a community with a few people with intelligence AND balls that instigate the actions of the rest. Now that person that instigates might not be the same person every time, nor may he instigate an action again. However, if the people that are a part of a community disagree with the actions of another, then in my opinion they are not part of that community. People can make the claim that they are not part of a community, but when you are part of a group that interacts with each other(most of those people on a daily basis), just like BG forums, I don't believe that they can be categorized otherwise. Also while anonymous may not be a fixed ideology, most of those that participate under it definitely share similar values (See: Scientology protests).
