Yeah that's what I meant. People using the same emails and passwords on facebook, twitter, etc and getting their xbox accounts taken. Either way fuck hackers, this is starting to get ridiculous.

All of this sounds like a perfect opportunity for governments to implement more regulations on the internet.

We just need more police patrolling the tubes.

Are there any services that actually show the full credit card info when you log in aside from your bank? Everything I know I have my CC tied to, only shows the last 4 digits in the sequence, and my name, that's it.
I know the retail store I work at we used to store the entire sequence in our system until someone got pissed off (ironically we get more pissed off customers now since we only include the last four digits). Wasn't sure how it worked with other companies (i.e. Microsoft).

Eh, internet services are different. Nevermind.

I can't help but feel like this is what all of this is going to end up resulting in.

Sega has confirmed that the personal data of 1.29 million of its customers was stolen in an attack on its systems.

It comes after the computer games firm said on Friday that e-mail addresses and dates of birth stored on the Sega Pass database were accessed by hackers.

However, Sega continues to say that payment information, such as credit card numbers, remained safe.

Sega spokeswoman Yoko Nagasawa said: "We are deeply sorry for causing trouble to our customers."

She added: "We want to work on strengthening security."

Ms Nagasawa added that it was not yet known when the Sega Pass online network could be restarted.

    'Investigation'

In an e-mail sent to Sega Pass users on Friday, the company wrote: "Over the last 24 hours we have identified that unauthorised entry was gained to our Sega Pass database.

"We immediately took the appropriate action to protect our consumers' data and isolate the location of the breach. We have launched an investigation into the extent of the breach of our public systems."

Sega explained that it had reset all passwords and urged customers to change their log-on details on other services and websites where they used the same credentials.

It added that password details had not been stored in plain text, suggesting that they may have been secured by some kind of encryption.

Sega is the latest in a line of games companies to suffer hacking and denial of service attacks on their online services.

Nintendo, Sony and several multi-player gaming communities have been hit in recent months.

The hacker group Lulz Security, which has been involved in a number of high profile attacks, including one against Sega rival Nintento, has denied involvement in the Sega case.

Instead it showed some sympathy for the company on its Twitter feed.

"We want to help you destroy the hackers that attacked you. We love the Dreamcast, these people are going down," it said.

Well, if people are still using their same cards from when the PSN stuff got stolen, I'd change it.
Someone just tried to use my card this morning, (but it got caught before it went through.)

We want to let you know that we have detected attempts on Sony Entertainment Network, PlayStation Network and Sony Online Entertainment (“Networks”) services to test a massive set of sign-in IDs and passwords against our network database. These attempts appear to include a large amount of data obtained from one or more compromised lists from other companies, sites or other sources. In this case, given that the data tested against our network consisted of sign-in ID-password pairs, and that the overwhelming majority of the pairs resulted in failed matching attempts, it is likely the data came from another source and not from our Networks. We have taken steps to mitigate the activity.

Less than one tenth of one percent (0.1%) of our PSN, SEN and SOE audience may have been affected. There were approximately 93,000 accounts globally (PSN/SEN: approximately 60,000 accounts; SOE: approximately 33,000) where the attempts succeeded in verifying those accounts’ valid sign-in IDs and passwords, and we have temporarily locked these accounts. Only a small fraction of these 93,000 accounts showed additional activity prior to being locked. We are currently reviewing those accounts for unauthorized access, and will provide more updates as we have them. Please note, if you have a credit card associated with your account, your credit card number is not at risk. We will work with any users whom we confirm have had unauthorized purchases made to restore amounts in the PSN/SEN or SOE wallet.

As a preventative measure, we are requiring secure password resets for those PSN/SEN accounts that had both a sign-in ID and password match through this attempt. If you are in the small group of PSN/SEN users who may have been affected, you will receive an email from us at the address associated with your account that will prompt you to reset your password.

Similarly, the SOE accounts that were matched have been temporarily turned off. If you are among the small group of affected SOE customers, you will receive an email from us at the address associated with your account that will advise you on next steps in order to validate your account credentials and have your account turned back on.

We want to take this opportunity to remind our consumers about the increasingly common threat of fraudulent activity online, as well as the importance of having a strong password and having a username/password combination that is not associated with other online services or sites. We encourage you to choose unique, hard-to-guess passwords and always look for unusual activity in your account.

Mass European PSN Password Reset, "precautionary measure”
Sony has issued a mass mandatory password reset on the European PlayStation Network, although there has been no security compromise.

European PSN users have reported numerous sign in issues over the past few hours. According to a support reply on the PlayStation forums, the reason is that Sony has requested users change their passwords.

“We monitor PSN account for any irregular activity. If such activity is detected we will sometimes reset passwords,” a support team member said.

“This was done purely as precautionary measure and there was no specific evidence that any accounts had be compromised.”

The Sony representative reiterated that “there is nothing specific to worry about” and said that “only a small number of users” had been affected.

No further details of the irregular activity are available, for security reasons.

Just a heads up, but if you're a procrastinator like I am, you should really cancel any cards you ever had on PSN back then if they're still in use. I had used 2 cards ever on it and one of them got used earlier this year for some charge in China and I had to get that replaced. Then my (main) bank card had an unauthorized charge on this this past weekend so I had to call and get that one cancelled. In both cases they were small amounts likely to see if the cards still worked.

Lesson learned: Don't procrastinate or think you're safe when it comes to this stuff.

Looking like the forced reset might apply to North American accounts also. Couldn't log-in today (said incorrect p/w), had no e-mail from Sony though like the Euros got, but I did a p/w reset and was on my merryway.
