this illustration is quite clearly meant to pay homage to the early FFXI promo art and wallpapers..
yeah hope they do..
they did release a wallpaperish version of the abyssea artwork after all
speaking of which, is this the 2nd artwork piece that has paid homage to the hume male?
the abyssea one has one in identical gear and a similar pose
also in hindsight, u can see an Iron Giant, a Murex, Rani and a Yilbegan lookalike, which probably coulda been a dragon, which probably coulda represented Shinryu. kinda shows u how much they plan in advance thru concept art and all

That's a really great piece of art. It's like that other Abyssea one Spira posted but the artist had more than 2 minutes to come up with something. Probably the best FFXI art so far. I dig the style a lot. Glad that they finally made the collection. There's a few cheapskates who have resisted buying Abyssea but maybe they'll get this.
I haven't seen anyone else mention it yet, but you know how SE is fond of adding little teasers at the end of their trailers? After watching this one again I noticed something. At the end where the tagline "The battle continues..." is shown if you look carefully you can notice some sort of smoke/fog/mist effect. Maybe I'm reading into it too much, but maybe it's another hint at the business to come with the Voidwatch.
wont buy, not boxed edition!
I dunno. Maybe you caught on to it, but at the same time, they've been fond of this style of ending videos for FFXI. If i recall correctly, the Zilart promo trailer ends with a line like 'the adventure begins here' and ToAU's was 'Vana'diel awaits'. Its kinda like their way of saying its not over..
Join in on blowing up thier forum over this. ~$240 in software purchases for expansion access and we don't get the item unless we spend another $20, while my friend just starting on ym server next month gets all the expansions and the hat for a total of $20? Are they trying to alienate their loyal long term subscribers? Oh yes, we just get a Prishe statue for 6 more furniture storage slots... Oh wait, the newbies buying this box get that too.
So buy the download version and burn it to disc to make your own physical copy...? It install faster off a hard drive than a DVD anyway. I reinstall annually and I keep ISOs on my external drive, as well as a copy of my fully patched FFXI folder, so I can reinstall and then copy the updated files over. No reason not to keep an FFXI folder copy if it's working. The OS reinstall is to clean out the registry and temp folders of all the junk that clutters it up from all the various program installs and uninstalls.
Lol. FFXI here I come... Yet again.
no wallpaper versions so far..
having it digital only helps to save them a lot of logistical costs of producing the discs, keeping inventory and shipping out to stores.. considering the demand will be pretty low, it wouldnt justify those costs imo. It also allows them to lower the price like this.
I think newly released expansions (if unavailable any other way, or if huge filesize wise) still could. I personally collect the PS2 versions of expansion releases too so I hope any future non-compilation release will see physical releases
Everyone who is considering buying this (myself included) should band together on one server, make a linkshell and help each other do shit. Most people would be doing it a 2nd time around, already know what to do and just breeze through everything. Just sayin.
While the hat is pretty nice (sub 30), I'm not all up in arms over not getting it as a long-term subscriber. I mean, I've been able to play FFXI for years prior to this release, and that's, you know, sort of the reward there. Sure, the hat would be handy, and maybe I'd level up a second account if I had it available, but at the end of the day, I'm fine with not getting it.
That said, even providing an in-game way to purchase the hat with gil or something would probably assuage a lot of people's anger.
^ exactly, all the years worth of fun back when most of my friends still played = priceless.
just curious, how would i give a friend the registration codes for the expansions? aren't they linked to the account directly after purchase?
When you purchase the collection, they don't ask for your POL ID, you have to register an account in POL Viewer and then register the FFXI code. The hat code is a seperate one, and still doesn't auto-link.
How do we go about getting this piece...

made into a poster or wall scroll?
