I often throw in whey protein as well, but I can't believe anybody is hating on my kashi. Back when I was really into body fat %, I used to eat it with water. I'm biggest into running/trail running though, maybe that's why I like it so much. Spoiler for loooong

    Spoiler: show

Yeah, once I get to Germany I'm going to save up for some gym equipment (going to the gym with a bunch of military guys.. pass). I'm not really sure about the frozen veggies. I get most of my advice from my in-laws because their smoothies are a LOT more green and I'm too lazy to read the book. I know they just keep the veggies refrigerated though. Adding any different greens is always a plus.

im not hatin' on you, im hatin' on the cereal just for clarification. for one thing, the protien/carb ratio is ass lol. like i said, if i need the carbs, and the fiber, ill throw in some 100% oats into my shake, or eat it with my eggs. and i also dont like the ingredients. maybe its the inner old paranoid fat guy in me, but the 1st things i see is 'corn meal, corn flour, and calcium carbonate" which screams = gtfo, to my brain lol. its just my initial reaction to shit like that. and im not a fan of corn. its fucking everywhere and it was the reason i got fat in the 1st place, even when i was doing heavy labor part time jobs.

like i said, i think its cool you and everyone else are in this lifestyle. but i'm not a fan of cereal. if i have to eat cereal with corn on it, it might as well taste good, and go straight for my cookie crisp or frosted flakes. omg, i was a fucking frosted flakes injection junkie man. i used to eat that shit when i took a shower

you are in a different case than all of us. for you, i think its good for you to get fructose in, and like i said, im so happy you guys decided to start going green. i remember your FB status update, it got me sooooo freaking thirsty for them and decided to start back up on it for my carb cycle days.

my advice on nutrition is basic as hell. i avoid anything with the word "corn" in it. it sounds simple, but you'd be surprised of how much corn is taking over the food industry. its in some mucus syrup medications, and cough drops, too. but as long as you can read, and have a decent budget, you should be fine.

and i have a ratio set around my goals. if im trying to lose fat i keep a 60/30/10 ratio of protiens/fats/carbs and eat all my fats before i lift for energy i dont get from my complex carbs. but if im trying to put on healthy mass, i stick with 50/25/25 of protiens fats and carbs.

you guys reminded me, is those like "fruity" v8's any good for you? More importantly do they taste any good lol?

I think regular V8 tastes gross as fuck, but always kinda wanted to try those new ones thinking they'd be healthy....but considering how gross I find the regular one...

I knew you weren't hating on me, heh. I just really love that cereal. Shits gotten me through a lot of marathons. And if you look the "corn" you talk about is WAY down the list of ingredients. we're talking like 4 grams. I can understand the reaction though.

Anyway, to answer Kasandra. I think the fruity V8 is just as bad tasting as the normal one. Only one I can stand is the spicy one. The problem with all of them is the sodium though I think.

Whether they're good for you or not I don't know, but the fruit ones are delicious.

V-8's only really good for vitamin-c, but you're getting a lot of sodium and sugar in the process. Broccoli kicks its ass on all counts. If you don't like broccoli, then spinach, onions, peppers, and tomatoes are all good for vitamin-c too. And your multi-vitamin should have a lot of it too.

V8 isn't quite as healthy as they advertise (it's mostly just Vitamin C), though it's still better for you than most drinks. The "fruity"/splash versions have a pretty high load of sugar, and the regular has loads of sodium.

They do have a low-sodium version of their regular drink, which also tastes pretty horrible. On the up side, it's very healthy/filling! I can't say I'd recommend it though lol...

Vitamin C is extremely important to worry about in your diet... if you're a 19th century whaler living off of hardtack.

I'm lucky in that I actually fucking love broccoli to death (even when I was little I pretended to be a dinosaur eating trees...>.> Mostly was just curious since I see commercials for it all the time and was wondering about it.

    yeah, i agree lol. ruke is right too, it is filling! but ugh, it tastes horrible ;;. before i educated myself on this, i used to drink it in the morning, but good lord, i would rather drink a can of tomato soup. at least the texture would be thinner and easier to consume <_>;

how is your diet coming along anyhow? did you get the hubby to go along with you?

ya he kinda does, we haven't been doing too severely on dieting, but just reducing what we eat even further. IE, now if we go get burgers, we get a salad instead of fries. Got a healthy cookbook for eating at home.

Haven't been to the gym this week but I've had a bunch of school shit to do, so that should go back to normal next week. D:

you can still eat burgers, just dont eat the bread! :D and i hear you. i think the hardest thing about these kinds of lifestyles is balancing it out with your current obligations, but im glad to hear you're at least making attempts at it. im busy as hell, too. god bless the man that invented the george foreman grill~

ya I know, that's why we are trying to make sacrifices. Diets don't work to well 'cause for the most part I find healthy food bland, so doing things like burgers n' salad instead of burgers n' fries, may not be completely healthier, but at least better than what we were doing. lol

if you guys ever need any help or any questions, let me know, man. miz/ruke/wooz' aren't the only educated black folks lol. im actually going to school for this because i ended up liking it so much, that i want to dive deeper into it and learn why which minerals/etc act certain ways when entering your body and whatnot and help others lose weight/fat. besides. we're way overdue for a vent session, and i need to remind rein who the subligar king is

Is there any suggested foods to start with when beginning a exercise routine specifically for weight loss? Rich gave me this a while back and it has been a big help (props) http://eatthis.menshealth.com/node/61205 . Just curious if there any other additional first steps to take with food so that I'm not harming myself in the first month of changing my eating habits and exercising. I'm definitely ready to not be the big guy in my group of friends anymore.

Nothing wrong with burgers, even grain-fed beef is okay if you're taking plenty of fish oil. The worst part about them is the bread, but you can stand to eat a piece of bread. saturated fat is good for you too.

Killing off the fries+coke that most people eat with burgers eliminates 90% of the bad shit about that meal.

I'm easing myself into it. I've started tracking my calories, using an iPhone app, but not changing my diet yet. I still eat burgers and pizza, but only up to my goal calories. So far, the biggest change is mostly just stopping eating when I'm satisfied, rather than when I'm done. Plus, I've been having to make strategic choices of how to spend my calorie allotment, based on most filling for fewest calories, which naturally cuts out things like fries, chips and soda. Not worth it if I only get so many calories in the day. I haven't still felt hungry at the end of the day, despite the lowered calories and the workouts, so it's not so bad.

After a while of doing this, I'll start substituting healthier things in for those calories. But I just don't think I could honestly commit to it if I just all of a sudden starting eating all my calories in broccoli, oats and skinless grilled chicken breast instead of my usual diet.
