While I salute your dedication, I have to ask you; assuming you DO find her, I don't think the people who own her if she is a victim of trafficking will be happy to part with her. What are you planning to do in that situation?

Short Answer: No idea

Long Answer: Still no idea, but call in authorities I suppose? I don't even know yet what World or even Phillipine organizations handle international trafficking. I'm still at the "how do I even approach this" stage, I'm not even close to figuring out "endgame" so to speak.

Basically I'm approaching this thing one step at a time. Step 1 is gather info (on both the rumor/child itself and on finding missing people), Step 2 is to actually perform the search (should I deem it at least somewhat plausible), and Step 3 is handle the result of the search (once again, if plausible).

I'm just holding out hope at this point that my other Aunt was correct about them giving the child to the doctor who actually just wanted the child. That would make my day and turn this into a basic person search with a high chance of a happy ending. But I'm not gonna sit around and hope for that outcome only, which is why I'm asking how to handle the worst case scanarios in advance.

My entire family is made up Americans several generations removed from any immigration, so that covers anyone I have or haven't mentioned yet. In this one and only one case in our family, my cousin was deployed to the Philipines back in the 1980's where he ended up marrying a Filipino woman (my mother claims to recall that they wed in the Philippines, but made sure to specify that she can't be certain). During that time over there (no idea yet if before or after the supposed wedding) they had the child in question (which my mom claims she is certain exists). I'm no expert in child laws, but I *think* that makes the child an American citizen? Can someone jump in and help me answer that one.

Once back in America with wife in tow, the mother became an American citizen and they had another child who is also obviously an American citizen.

I just searched for citizenship rules, and it looks like the citizenship of the child hinges on when the marriage occured.

One of the person's parents was a U.S. citizen when the person in question was born
The citizen parent lived at least five years in the United States before the child's birth
A minimum of two of these five years in the United States were after the citizen parent's 14th birthday.

For the pre November 1986 rules, they're basically the same but they require either the father to have lived in the U.S. for 10+ years instead of 5 OR for the mother to be the U.S. citizen if it was out of wedlock. So regardless of pre or post 1986, the child's nationalty hangs on the marriage.

Plain 'ol white people. Standard mutts of Western European countries. Almost all of us have German and English, many have Dutch, some have Irish and Italian mixed in. There may be others mixed in but that's as much as I know. The cousin who married the Filipino is German/English/Dutch only I think.

I realize you're dropping in your standard witty remarks, but I'll respond anyway. Mmmmmm, bait.

But be fair, a lot of family members think it was sold, who else do you think told me all this? Although who they think it was sold to does vary though. In addition I'm not approaching the cousins directly nor the daughter, I'm approaching the Aunt who told the family members that told me ... so it's her own damn fault if it cycles back to her.

If you're really concerned, ask your cousin. "hey man, I was just thinking back when I was a little kid, did you guys have a baby way back then? I swore I heard that way back then, but when I asked (for example) my mom about it she was really weird about it. Shit I dunno, I was really little but what happened back then?"

This gossipy bullshit is just that. Your aunt wasn't there, she only knows what your cousin told her. Be straight with him - not accusatory, just honestly inquisitive. He may surprise you.

Any other cousin I would, but this one? Hell no. Why? I'm sorry but I'm gonna have to file that with the "stuff that doesn't belong in this thread" folder. Suffice it to say I have very very little reason to trust him and I have extremely good cause not to confront him. Not conjectural or rumored cause, but real cause that is independent of anything said so far in this thread.

Plus, I don't think he knows that I know. I'm not even sure he knows that his mother told her sisters. Actually, I planned to ask my Aunt who knows about this and who does the cousin think knows about this (if anyone).

A family spawned from the 10 or so children raised by an abusive father in the 40's and 50's who was drunk 90% of the time, who left them locked in cars for 8+ hours when a trip to the beach became a trip to the bar, who beat them, who removed them all from school when they hit 15-16 to put them to work so he could have drinking money, and who sexually assaulted a few of them. I'm speaking about my mother's generation of course, and they have learned to share their secrets with each other but to never ever tell anyone else, not even the authorities. Again, how old are you OP? You're being incredibly delusional here. You don't even have a plan on what to do should you find this hypothetical child slave. As for the hypothetical plan to this hypothetical "rescue" ... I think the best anaolgy I can give is that you need to learn how put the ball in the endzone before you learn how to kick an extra point. In this case, planning a "rescue" is pointless unless I learn the best ways to go about finding what it is I plan to "rescue".

Finally, this thread is not about the order or methods in which I confront family members. I left out a lot of details on that because thats not what this thread was posted for.

So to reiterate the clarification post I made a few posts back:

1) As of right now I am neither searching for nor planning to "rescue" said person. Contrary to what I may have implied.
2) In this thread, I am performing due diligence and researching how to find someone to see if making an attempt is even feasable, and if it is, how I would go about performing that search.
3) I keep putting "rescue" in quotes because if this person is literally in a situation where they actually need rescuing, I will likely have to abort the entire thing. But in that case, I likely won't even reach this step as someone in such a situation can completely floor out the feasibility of even beginning the search. The odds of me even starting the search greatly improve if their status as a slave is either completely debunked or is at the very least indeterminate.

The idea that my nephew & nieces are almost 10 now breaks my heart, never saw the nieces and the nephew was an infant the last I saw him.
