    BG Auto. Ford Escape, worthwhile?

Looking into getting a Ford Escape 06' with 49k miles on it at 12,000 w/o talking him down yet.

Has anyone owned this car before? Going to do research online about fuel economy and such but I would also like first hand experience.

I'm hesitant about getting a Ford just due to my experience with Ford Taurus' and the fact that they are built so you can't do a fucking thing to them w/o taking them to a garage to have their entire frame taken apart to put in a new tail light (Exaggeration, but not too much which is sad).

Looking at pictures gives me an impression the thing is a boat, but others have told me it is not so not too sure. My fiances father is looking into getting the car then selling it to us, as he is down in Maryland where we are moving, and we don't have a car up here.

If you're used to bigger engines it's gonna feel like crap to you. We had one as a rental one time... It's a peppy lil sumbitch, but not something I think I'd want to deal with daily, then again it was when they first came out. don't know about the 06's it just felt so light, but then again, I was used to driving german cars and an Expedition at the time.

Yeah, some of the reviews im reading are the typical ford reviews, aka shit begins to break down after 40k miles. Trying to find something dependable around 11k mark and my fiance's parents noticed this and told us about it.

My mom has a 2010 with the 2.5 I4 and gets a an overall mpg of 28.X. When Ive borrowed it, I got 27.4 overall. She had a Explorer before that, its much lighter and more nimble than that and your taurus.

I don't think '06 is one of those years though. I don't think I'd buy anything Ford later than '08. Even then, their new engines are >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> than their old.

idk why all the hate on Ford Tauruses up in this bitch. My family has owned 3 since the 1990 model year. Maybe the men in my family are just particularly handy but my dad + both granddads regularly fixed most problems that came up. My granddad's still driving his 1998 Taurus and outside of shit it needs to be taken to mechanic for like broken A/C, him solo or w/ me being his slave fix most shit that come up.

I'll say the Taurus they had right before they killed it temporarily ~2006 was a piece of shit though. 1990s era though was Camry/Accord tier though, fite me. Also the old SHO was a beast.

And why no love for post 08 Fords? Finally getting EU Focus + Fiesta is awesome.

It's funny you mention the Taurus, it's actually one of the best selling cars ever made. Ford Escape is good, don't get a hybrid, but you can bump to the V6 and get near 30mpg. Honestly, I'm driving a 90' crown vic that's only had two major break downs, of which were our fault. 275k+ miles and still running strong on that ford 5.0 V8.

Best selling car does not make it one of the best... Taurus...Tauri? Usually have so many issues it's not even funny.

    Lol this made me laugh

as for the hate on Taurus' not sure about post 98s but the things are a pain in the ass to even try to work on. Went to try to do some gasket sealant on my fiances, required us to put it in the radiator..only problem is that there is no radiator cap, which we found out after removing a ton of shit from the front of the car to even see the radiator. I remember on my old Taurus, installing a tail light required me and my stepfather to do some crazy finger tricks to get the light in because you couldnt just pull the light off and stick the new bulb in.

We decided against the Escape, due to most of the reviews saying that the windows explode out the back at times, the alternator loves to go at 40k miles and other issues. Looking at just getting a new Nissan Sentra or Altima or maybe a Toyota.

Also looking at a Nissan Versa I guess.

I have a 2010 Escape and love it. The Microsoft sync feature is amazing. I have a V6 which has 240 horse. Makes it pretty damn quick for a small SUV. However, if you're looking at an '06 be forewarned that they were redesigned starting with the '08 models. I think that that is when Ford's turnaround really started to take off in terms of quality. I'm not sure if I could recommend buying an Escape older than '08. About my only beef with it is that the cargo area is rather small.

Also, do some more looking. I've seen '08s with around that many miles for 13.5k or so.

This - a lot of Ford models really started to improve in quality after 08... I have a '10 Mustang and my girlfriend has a '09 Focus, both have been great cars for us

Check out one of the New Focus models. Can be had for like 16k, and around 22k fully loaded with A TON of features. Supposed to be an excellent commuter car if thats what you're looking for. You'll have a car that you might actually like to drive too.

The only thing about buying a new Focus is that with the fuel-efficient push they are selling like hotcakes so there's not much haggle room on new models. We actually received a letter in the mail last week from a local Ford dealer asking to buy my girlfriend's Focus for above KBB price because the market for a used Focus is so strong and her '09 model is from right around when the car companies saw a dip in sales thus increasing the scarcity of this year/model combo.

Man why the fuck hasn't the dealer done this for my 08 Focus... I'd love to trade it in in this kind of a deal and get the 2012 one.. I suppose its cause mine is a manual?

You're not gonna be able to haggle much period with dealers really. They've done a really good job of packing the car so full of features that if you try to haggle the dealer is going to put you ina car that's gonna have less features and just have a marginally better price. I'm not much for the features and stuff like that, but I'm waiting to see what the Focus ST looks like price wise when they release it.
