Kohan's spot on, and as far as I can recall, it's been this way for years. Malekith had to form /shout pickup runs to finish off the rest of his Morrigan set. He doesn't seem to last long in competent shells as it's not long before he's /shouting for everything again. These days, his /shouts draw the same ire as Chyula's obvious troll /shouts, and from what I hear, he's such an ass that people generally don't like dealing with him. On more than one occasion, alliances he formed to kill Bria mutinied against him.

To be fair, I don't know this first hand as I have no interest in joining his /shout groups. This is just what friends relayed to me.

This isn't isolated to the Port Jeuno era, either. Back in the 75 days, Whitegate also gave him lots of shit for this:

There's a world of difference between what he's claiming and picking up a foul ball someone tried to catch and drop. You let go of the ball, it is no longer yours. Don't bitch someone else snatched it from the ground, even if you were about to pick it back up.

Edit: If you're referring to his statement itself as accurate, then yeah. I don't think anyone here would ever think that an unlocked door means free shit in real life.
