So according to CNN's sources the operation was designed specifically to execute rather then capture Bin Laden. Which is a shame, I would have liked to seen him stand trial.

My guess is that Obama picked execution as letting him stand trial would be bad politics, the republicans would spin it so bad in the end it would end up hurting Obama more then helping him.

The view I heard, and the one that makes the most sense to me, is who puts him on trial? Numerous individual nations have a claim on the man, and if we were to capture him alive, we'd have to play politics with a bunch of other countries on the laws of trial and (presumably) execution.

This is cleaner, faster and simpler.
