Come on Elvis, you're smarter than this. Osama wasn't a Muslim holy warrior only intent on destroying America, he committed acts of atrocity against people of all races and religions. Don't act like no one in the Muslim world is happy about him finally meeting his maker and that his death is positive only when viewed through the biased views of the American media.
And regardless, that's beside the point. Wahi was trying to equate celebrating the towers falling with celebrating the death of Osama. It should be OBVIOUS that they're not the same since the Towers were targeted precisely because they contained thousands of innocent non-combatant civilians. If you want to compare it the bombing of the USS Cole fine. If you want to question the manner in which Osama was tracked down, fine. If you want to point out that many civilians have been killed by the American military, fine. But you seriously can't compare the reactions to those two specific events.
And again, enough with the strawman arguments about how this doesn't end the war on terror. Not a single person here has suggested that, we all acknowledge it's mostly a moral victory.
Sorry, fat fingers, locked by accident.
I think my OC is bad, and I should feel bad... but fuck it.

Dammit I had a perfect troll for the people upset about the celebrations, and it got erased because the thread got locked. Oh well, here's the basics
Emporer:End of return of the Jedi::Osama Bin Laden:Last night at ground Zero.
There. Now i'm going to bed to have nightmares of Obama as Luke and Bush as obi wan.
see this is what i dont understand. do motherfuckers like you think SO HIGHLY of yourselves that you don't think any normal every day person understands this? You are like the people in the storms thread that feel the need to point out the BLATANT irony of insanecyclones name. GUESS WHAT GENIUS, YOU ARENT ON TO ANYTHING THE REST OF US DONT UNDERSTAND. so for christs sake let people find happiness in the fact that a mass murderer was finally killed. let the people affected by 9/11 have what little closure they can from this. Everyone knows there are still sick fucks out there, everyone knows this shit is still going on. I don't understand how you, greenwald, et al can be so fucking oblivious
Man, no one has been saying that's the case, even Obama in his speech last night said that. We've been saying all along it won't stop terrorists but this is a moral victory for America and the families that lost loved ones on 9/11. Why is this point so hard to miss in this thread, it's been stated numerous times.
We know its not going to change a lot in the grand scheme of things. I don't think anyone here is that naive. In fact we're all with you on the idea that Al Qaeda will continue to mount terrorist attacks and terrorism simply won't die. Like everyone's said, its more of a victory in a sense of closure. I personally don't see an issue with people celebrating the death of a man like that.
Now, on the other hand, if we'd gone ahead and ran two planes into towers of innocent people in Saudi Arabia, and Americans were cheering about that, then I wouldn't be on board.
Hey I never said people shouldn't be happy the guy is dead.
And Ceph, I'm not equating anything. I'm saying, that a large number of Arabs and Muslims hate us for our foreign policy and with good reason. There is no justification for *put blindfold on and pick random block on X goods because they were considered useful for Iraqi industry during the sanctions era*.
We've done plenty of outright horrible things. It's just dressed up nicer in a political language that compartmentalizes the fault and if you take apart the details of the Iraq sanctions, you'd see that. It's a perfect illustration of the bureaucratic nature in which we conduct wholesale destruction on a society.
I'm not saying we shouldn't be happy the guy is dead. I'm saying at this point, a decade later, with all that has happened in between - i would think the better reaction would be to reflect on the misery caused on that day by the hijackers/OBL and most importantly, the context. No one here mentions the sanctions.
Because they simply choose to ignore them.(the history of sanctions)
Time for military spending cuts!? :D
Spoiler: show
My leg hurts from doing the stanky leg when i was dancing in the streets while listening to dancing in the streets by lionel richie. I totally served those terrorist fucks.
You didn't equate anything, but the person you were defending did. And yes, our foreign policy toward middle-eastern countries are questionable at best. Irrelevant to what we were talking about, though.
Not disputing that.
Because it's a moral victory in a time when all we hear is what's wrong with the world. Plenty of people right now are reflecting on what happened 10 years ago, as you would expect. But I don't think you can blame people for having a positive initial reaction.I'm not saying we shouldn't be happy the guy is dead. I'm saying at this point, a decade later, with all that has happened in between - i would think the better reaction would be to reflect on the misery caused on that day by the hijackers/OBL and most importantly, the context.
