I am neither frankly, and i don't wholly disagree with you, however, i have a difficult time accepting that, "other people threaten to hurt us" is a reason to back down from anything. My disagreement is less with not releasing the photo than it is with worrying about how terrorists might respond. If any of the rhetoric about letting the terrorists win actually rang true with anyone within our government, they would feel the same way. In my opinion the mentality that our policy must be decided by how our enemies might interpret it, is one of those pesky post 9/11 remnants we're stuck with until people stop fearing their own shadows. This is not to say that our policy should never take into account the opinions of foreign nations, but that it is for us to decide who's opinions matter to us and who's do not. I do not feel that terrorists belong on that list.

after 9/11 we began wars in Iraq, and Afghanistan. for 5 or 6 of those years our objective was in Pakistan? No lesson there thats for sure.

Lessening the possibility for blowback is a good reason to limit civilian casualties in these wars.


Obviously a concern for human life would be a better reason, but they're both reasons.

I wonder how people would've reacted instead if the govt said "we didn't take any photos"?
