All Deb said was "no!", that isn't an actual order to do anything. No? No what? Besides, the woman was like a millisecond away from tripping the wire, even if Deb did say stop it's not like it would've changed anything.

Besides, I doubt the first thing on your mind after seeing all that is telling someone off.

I wouldn't be surprised if his character doesn't really exist and it's being played out like Fight Club.
They like to give Dexter and the killers something in common and this'll relate to the fabrication of his father in addition to the more broad religion issues.

The only way that can work is if Olmos' character is dead and the weird dude's split personality is channeling a little EJO. In this episode Olmos has a website that has pictures of him on it, remember?

which fits even more with the "guiding ghost" mirroring of harry/dexter.

Yea, that's exactly what I meant. Olmos was probably mentoring the young guy at some point and then he went "underground" (as in six feet underground). Young guy is lost without him so he makes an imaginary friend just like Dexter did with his father.

It should be interesting to see how Dexter goes about repaying that promise he made while Harrison was in surgery.

After the second episode of the season I mentioned to a friend how I had this gut feeling that Olmos may not be 'real'this past episode made me rethink it a bit, with him painting and such. Also with the Four Horsemen kill being done by what looks to be 2 people. You never know though. Him showing up outta no where to watch further cemented the fact he may not be real.

I considered the possibility that olmos' character may not be real for about 20 seconds after reading this thread. There is nothing suggesting that he is not real, and a myriad of things suggesting he is. Just don't see any reason for him not to be real. Think you guys are looking for the american horror story thread.

Well even if the kill seemed to be done by two different people it could still be a case of the young guy acting out the old man's personality.

I don't know, when you're talking about the difference between hacking limbs off and surgical precision, not much short of actual ghostly possession is going to allow that kind of drastic change. So again I refer you to the AHS thread haha.

Of course I could be wrong, but I just don't see dexter embracing that kind of story line when everything else we've ever seen from this show is rooted firmly in reality.

because Harry isn't a guiding figment of Dexter's imagination or anything, nope.

Yea, either ghostly possession or the difference between using a rusting medieval sword and a modern surgical needle.

I always forget about harry, so I guess you have a point there.

Pretty sure they said the sword was only used for the kill wound, and a bonesaw was used to dismember the body. After that discussion is when they had the conversation about two different people handling the body.

Regardless, I still don't think there is any reason to believe that olmos' character is not real. And no one here has presented a convincing argument as to why they think so.

I never got the impression he wasn't real until I read it here. Could be interesting, but so far I think some people are reading into things a bit too much.

Yeah to me it seems like crazy old whacked dude finds crazy young apprentice to do the heavy lifting. I think we'll see dexter get close to apprentice and use him to find olmos' character. Either wayreal or not, it's all just speculation at this point.

It really can go both ways. It's not conclusive evidence, but go back and watch the scene where the woman that the young killer bones is tied up the morning after. Olsmos' character is kneeled down next to her and talking, but she never acknowledges him, she keeps just looking at the young guy wide-eyed and terrified. 2 things from that scene that throw a wrench in the theory:

    1. When Olmos goes to stroke her hair, she reacts and closes her eyes/starts crying. This might not be an actual reaction, though -- could just be timing to fool the viewer. Wouldn't she try and move away from Olmos if he's stroking her? But no twitch, nothing, she just closes her eyes and cries.

    2. Young guy wakes up in his bed and finds his lady friend tied up. Could be Olmos is real and tied her up. Could also be his "Olmos personality" took over, tied her up, went back to bed, and he woke up again as his regular personality.

I'd have to go back and watch each episode and I really don't want to do that, but to my knowledge, Olmos hasn't done anything to physically harm any of the victims that we've seen. With the first guy with the intestines in the scale, Olmos sends the young guy do kill him while he hangs back.

I don't think there's definitive evidence either way that Olmos is fake or real. But considering Dexter constantly draws parallels between himself and whatever main villain is there each season, it would make sense that this young guy also has a "dark passenger."

Also, someone tell me his fucking name so I can stop calling him "young guy."
