I feel sorry for all of you who haven't experienced III in all of it's glory.
    It's like 10x better than 2

Edit: God this makes me want to play them again, my saturn's Action Replay memory chip no longer works though, so I can't save games. Had ANYONE gotten an Saturn Emulator to work with them?

All three games are so radically different in terms of tone and style -- 1 is a legend, 2 is a fairy tale, and 3 is a political drama. They're all amazingly awesome in their own way. To be able to jump to such radically different tones and stories... It's by far one of the best video game series of all time.

I guess I've always been a fan without even knowing it.
Yeah, I should have said "Since the Takahashi Brothers stopped dealing with Sonic Team/Sega, rather than left, since Shining Force III is just as amazing as the rest.

It's hard not to love everything Camelot has done... though GS: Dark Dawn pushed me at times to be sure. They need to hire editors.

I would have loved to be able to play through all three discs of SF3. If they stay true to the original formula it should end well. If they decide to make a game in the vein of the last shit entries I won't even spare it a second glance. Now if only they would do a re-release of all the old Working Designs games.

I just got it working. The latest SSF emulator and I found the games translated. Running very smoothly to boot.

Whenever I see someone mentioning something like this, I always feel compelled to point out that the Shining series did not start with strategy RPGs, and has never been contained within one genre. A fair amount of the non-SRPGs in the Shining series were excellent, like Holy Ark and Wisdom (which, despite occasional criticism to the contrary, was an enjoyable Zelda clone).

Also, Neo and Exa are far more enjoyable if you play them undubbed. The dubbing is so atrocious that it does in fact impact one's enjoyment of the game. However, Exa especially received positive feedback for the quality of its gameplay, which is why pursuing an undubbed version is worthwhile.

I'm all for Shining anything, so long as it is good. I'm a long-time fan of the entire franchise across all the genres it has touched.

True enough, it didn't start with the TRPGs but took a bit before anything with the Shining Force name (rather than just Shining) to be anything but, didn't it?
When most people think Shining Force, they think TRPG even though Shining in the Darkness wasn't one. I think the sentiment is pretty understandable.

I didn't even know about those other games, might have to look them up now.

PM me the details if you could be so kind! I played through SF2 with the Sega Channel when I was a kid but I never got a Saturn so I didn't even hear of SF3 until both were out of circulation.

Mind PMing me the details for the working emulator and rom? And some details about how well the emu works? I have the Japanese discs (-loved- Shining Force 3, loved the tie-in to Holy Ark).

And yeah, I feel like Holy Ark was an unappreciated (or perhaps just unknown) game. Man, I can't wait to have my box o games shipped back from home.

...Anyone know if there's a Dragon Force II translation floating around?

Oh wow, I'd like a hook up of the SF3 game, too. Was a big fan of the TRPG games (Level 99 Max in 1, sup~), played Shining in the Darkness and a bunch of the later gen ones.
