what if your land lord asked you to cut off one of it's legs and remove an eye? would you consider it because you "love" your new kitty?

As mentioned before by myself and several others, if he really, really wants a cat immediately he should have thought it through and adopted a shelter cat that is already declawed.

Then again, I shouldn't expect that type of foresight from someone who lived with his parents until he was 24 and never even grocery shopped for himself until last year. He's made some other gem threads (failing job interviews and his lack of "performance") but given his sheltered past the guy should probably focus more on learning how to do things for himself than unnecessarily hurting an animal.

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

extending people's health/years is when you're older and have heart conditions....

[edit] to clarify, the studies you're referring to is petting animals help regulate your heart and put you in a calm soothing state which puts less stress on the heart. OP is too young to have it effect him enough to make it any different.

This pretty much, op you are fucking stupid. What the hell was the point of this thread if you had already decided that you were going to get your poor kitten declawed? Horrible horrible thing to do just because your landlord requires it. You'd be better off with a stuffed animal.

Being an animal lover such as yourself you should know there are more than just the cardiovascular benefits of owning a pet. Otherwise why would anyone even have a pet in the first place if they're young?

If the cat is not happy when you declaw it you could just cook and eat it, that way it won't go to waste. Then get another cat and declaw until you find one that is happy without them.

Just wondering, did you consider cutting off the tip when it wasn't working?

You guys are just exaggerating it's just claws.

It can still jump chew and all

She won't go outside unless she's on a leash for a walk anyway so

No, it is not just claws. Look at your hand. They cut off the first knuckle of each finger and thumb.

    From wiki:

Onychectomy, popularly known as declawing, is an operation to surgically remove an animal's claws by means of amputating all or part of the distal phalanx, or end bones, of the animal's toes.

I used to think it was too man until I did research, there are cool people here being straight up with you, they aren't being hippies about it or over exaggerating they are being real. You are telling them to fuck off basically.. the fact is it's cruel man. Why do you think so many places no longer even off the procedure?

    http://www.declawing.com/

many cats never walk the same and never fully recover from the procedure, they spend the rest of their life in pain.. and this is when the procedure is done properly it's not like an extreme case cause they got it done by someone in Mexico or some cheap vet

It isn't just claws. They have to amputate the last bone with the claw because the claw producing cells are embedded in the bone. Imagine if someone amputated the last metacarpal on each of your fingers.

I did a little bit more research about the process last night and talked to my wife who is a vet tech about it and I learned some stuff.

Relatively recently in the last 5 years or so they have developed a new technique for declawing cats that doesn't damage the tendon running to the ends of their paws. This is the "retractor" tendon that allows them to flex their feet and bring their claws in and out. If the vet uses this new technique there is a very very low nonoccurence of physical complications from the surgery and because the tendon is intact they shouldn't develop arthritis later on.

The issue is not very many vets use this technique yet. And the technique isn't perfect but in a situation where it must be done it is the best way to do it.

Really though why don't you just adopt a cat that is already declawed instead of declawing a new cat? It shouldn't be that hard to find one that needs to be rescued.
