If you understand how cruel it is then why do it? Why not give up the kitten and adopt a cat already declawed? If you are not willing to do that then you really don't understand what it entails to declaw a cat. Also again for emphasis it isn't just the claws that get removed. It is the last bone of each appendage.

Ok me and my girlfriend got our first kitten like last week

We think we got her too early (she is 5 weeks old)

We plan to get her operated (sp) and cut her claws when she hits 10 weeks

OP states you were going to declaw due to apartment regulations. People argued against this, along with giving advice to properly raise the kitten. You basically said nah, son and ignored all advice.

We just had another batch of kittens 8 weeks ago(live on property, so don't have any rules like this, give them away for free to trustworthy people such as family/friends, but usually keep one), and I can't ever imagine declawing them after reading up on it years ago and hearing horror stories.

This thread actually makes me sad, and reaffirms for me why it is good that I am so picky about who I will let have any of our kittens. Sounds like you are just looking for the easy way out, or are perhaps bored and using this as a void. My opinion is biased though, I'm sure.

As for training, when I first got my cat I was used to living with dogs, so I would always say his name and whistle. Because of that, he got used to coming to two different things, his name and the whistle. Since I'm the only one who whistles for him and everyone else calls him by name, often times when gets scared and hides, I can get him out by whistling for him since he knows I'm the one calling him.

I sorta did this with my new cat as well, but since I didn't want my older cat to think I was calling him, I'd say her name and kind of make a clicking noise. As with my older cat, I can get out usually by making that noise, because she knows I'm the only one who will do it.

Also, kittens are good to teach tricks to! For instance we would always hang out hands down to pet her when she was little so she would sit up like a meerkat to be pet. Now whenever this wants pet
