How to train a kitten

Ok me and my girlfriend got our first kitten like last week

We think we got her too early (she is 5 weeks old)

We plan to get her operated (sp) and cut her claws when she hits 10 weeks


The problem we have is that she bites a lot

I understand that kitten bites to play, but it's starting to annoy me.

She jumps on the couch then jumps on me and starts biting me on the arms or on my cloths

When I sleep, she likes to jump onthe bed and bite me a bit.

She likes to bite my girlfriend on the fingers too.


I tried pinching her on the nose like the vet told me and telling her no but it docent work.

Any other trick?

Water bottle, it won't harm the cat, but they hate it. Say NO, firmly, while you squirt the bottle. It'll learn quick that NO is associated w/ the water bottle, fear the bottle and halt at NO after learning.

My kitty liked to nibble on us too. I basically just scolded him in various ways whenever he started biting. After a while he started doing it less, but he still did it.

Don't declaw the cat. It's so damn fucked up. Just make sure they have plenty of other things to claw and keep them trimmed. Cutting off the digits on the front paws is just to make your life a little easier is just fucked up.

Don't declaw the cat. It's pointless. The claws really don't hurt anyone. Buy or build a scratchpost for the cat and the claws won't hurt you at all. You don't really even have to trim them. I've never trimmed any of my cats claws, and they've never scratched anything inside the house ever except for their scratchpost.

Also, kittens play and bite a lot, it's part of the age. It's natural instinct for them in the same way that small children put everything in their mouth to explore it. The training for hunting, and as such, most everything it sees moving will be attacked. It's something that goes away as they grow older. If you're annoyed by it, just make sure to never ever play with the cat with your hands, and it'll never bite nor scratch you when it grows up. Instead, buy some toys for it, like a toy mouse, feather on a string etc. And any time it attacks you, lift it by the skin of its neck and put it on the ground.

One of the reasons it acts this way right now is because you got it when it was too young. In this phase of its life it ususally plays with its siblings, running around hunting them. As it has no siblings, it has to use that excess energy on you. A kitten shouldn't be separated from its mother until 12 weeks (well, I'd argue that 9 weeks is OK).

Nerf Gun from long distances once it gets older. My girlfriend's cats snap into behavior when they hear the click of the plunger being pulled back. Doesn't hurt them and it stopped them from going onto the kitchen table when a squirt bottle stopped being effective.

MIGHT... I've never heard of a cat causing tons of damage because someone didn't get them declawed. It's just cruel to do to a cat. Get a few scratch post and call it a day. Who cares what the apartment says.

I'm trying to figure out how to get my cat to go outside to use the bathroom. The bitch just sits on the porch for hours, and then when I let her in she goes and uses the litter box (or the carpet, which is the entire problem).

Don't just throw water on the cat get a spray bottle, from a dollar store or something( like the ones barber's uses).
