And about the X-mas inflation all those years ago. It was because the gil sellers had some super cheap sale if I remember right. Something like 1 mill for $5 or something stupid. I wasn't complaining at the time I made a fortune off of Healing Staves, Serket Rings, what ever the name was for Trotter boots back then and my friend's kraken dark when e quit.

I hate how naive I was back when that Christmas inflation happened - I raised 12mil from BCNMs to pay for a Noble's. I wish I'd just waited instead. Nowadays I'm loath to spend gil and I'm sitting on 8mil with pretty much nothing to spend it on, except spells, but I'm waiting for the prices to go down after the next update/server merge (hopefully).

The inflation was because you could dupe gil infinitely by buying and reselling gear in Tav for more than you bought it. Not that many people knew about it, but it put many billions of gil into the economy.

If they didn't add new magian trials, currency supply will probably decrease for a week or two and then increase past its current levels. This patch has either killed or reduced the output of 2/week Dynamis groups, and it didn't give substantial item incentives for people to do Dynamis.

In the long run, I think Dynamis will be done more by lowman farming groups (who don't sell their currency) and much less by people who would sell their currency. Lack of supply on the market is going to increase prices due to people looking to cut their lowman farming friends a break.

They aren't touching Dreamlands, though. I've only done one, so I'm not entirely familiar with what a normal amount of currency is like from those zones, but I have seen screenshots of multiple 100s from the bosses!

I didn't think there were that many groups farming currency with the purpose of selling. My group sells, but our primary purpose for Dynamis for the armor drops. Once people get the items they're interested in (THF hands/RDM hat/whatever), I expect interest in Dynamis to dwindle to just people looking for currency for their own needs. With Xarcabard being accessible every day and no more zone swiping, it won't take long for people to get everything they've ever wanted.

In my experience, Dreamlands average less currency than Xarc. Tav might be competitive, but stuff is just too spread out in the other zones.

I'm suspecting that groups like yours will drop out and decrease market supply, yeah.

I'm surprised all the duping/exploit discussion hasnt brought up fishing gold beds.

    1. I would be inclined to disagree with this: iirc this was only possible for a short time and JP's were the main culprit since at the time, they were the first with access to Tav across most servers (EDIT: they all got banned too)

    2. I would also argue that Rusty Caps added quite a bit of gil to the game (saw an argument that it didn't). I would make 200k a day without really trying. Between synthing caps (which only took 34 smithing) and catching moat carp (everyone trying to do a lushangs to fishbot better) to npc'ing the buckets you could make a large amount of gil without trying. At the time (or maybe a little beforehand) gil sold for 600$/mil, so yeah. I could make a mil in 4-5 days. Good times.

    3. Even after Rusty caps were fixed, I could make about 100-150k/day fishing nebs, and when it was nerfed I could make 100-150k/day selling nebs on the AH (but that doesn't apply to npc'ing for gil so yeah)
