Just bought this psp finally yesterday. Came out of the box with 6.30. Which FW is worth upgrading to, that's more compatible and easier to use with CFW, and with more support/features?

    Downgrade to 6.20, then use 6.20 pro-b5.

There's a downgrader right now, but I think you may have to update to 6.31 or 6.35 first.

You can use 6.35 pro-b if you don't mind loading up the cfw everytime you turn your psp on.

Anyone know if the PSP-1000 works with 32GB mem sticks? I don't wanna buy one and realize it doesn't work.

So my 32GB memory stick finally came in. And I just noticed all the -signed- PSP torrents popping up, that supposedly work fine on OFW? Are these reliable, or would it be better still to just downgrade my firmware and get the CFW?

No reason not to run a cfw.

I'll ask this here, from random question:

    Edit:

or do I need this adapter to go with it?

    http://www.amazon.com/Sandisk-Memory...4989172&sr=1-1

    psp 3001 btw

Edit Edit: Also, will it effect cfw'ing the system in any way using an adapter like that?

Also, as said earlier, I'll need to upgrade to 6.31, then back down to 6.20. For someone like myself who doesn't really have a clue what the hell he's doing, which FW would be better, the 6.20 TN - permanent, or the PRO B-5 permanent?

Oh damn, just tried running the downgrader... says 08g is not supported. Any downgraders out there that work with 8g?

When I asked about my PSP 1000 with 5.00 M33-6 GEN a few weeks before, I was told to stay on that firmware. So what's the deal? What am I gaining by making the switch, and how do I play newer games if I don't?

You will have to manually patch your games, or download them prepatched.

updating to 6.20 Pro B5 is extremely easy dude.

Anyways my psp is so old (launch 1000 model) my 8 year old battery decided to go defective and swell up, got an official battery off of ebay for $5! But the local sony store has the extended official battery for $30 (lol) and also picked up that lexar 16GB card for $30, so just can't wait for it to arrive.

Now another question, is there any risk on signing on to PSN with the CFW PSP? Because my gf and I wanna play PSP2 online once PSN is fully back up.

Finally got my shit fleshed out (Appreciate all the help). I put Promethus loader on 6.20 PRO B-5, is that even needed? Also, can I use compressed isos as-is, or do I need to expand them first before playing? One more thing, where do I put the iso files (I made an ISO folder in the root of the card, and FFIV complete seemed to work, but I was curious if that was correct/needed)?

ISO folder on the root of the drive, that'd be correct.

When I'm compressing ISO's to CSO's (PSP ISO Compressor 1.4) it seems to only knock like 200 mb's off file sizes, but the CSO's I download are like 300 mb total. Is there something I'm not doing properly, or is it dependent on the amount of compression from game to game?

Going to the PSN store and downloading stuff is fine, but if you're using an ISO you won't be able to play the online part of the game. Some games you can use a program to get around it and join servers, but it was annoying to setup when I tried it.

It depends on the game, yeah. Lots of CSO downloads you'll find will rip shit out of the game, too. For example, lots will delete the install data, since you won't be installing it anyway. That alone can remove a lot. Others remove little things, like opening cutscenes (when you leave the title screen idle) and that kind of thing.

Yeah, you need a Hunter's License for PSP2 now. If you have a wired setup to your PS3 you can always try Adhoc Party for playing online. Though I'm not sure how many people (if any) actually use it for PSP2, since it has a built in online function anyway.

Sorry for the necro-bump, but I'm trying to figure out all this PSP stuff.

I just picked up a used launch-model PSP 1000 from Airenn (thanks!). It was previously flashed with a cfw, not sure what version. My original reason for picking this thing up was to play FF4 Complete but I can't get it to run. I have the .iso in X:\ISO on the memory card but it fails out, saying the game could not start. I guess a few questions come to mind....

    1) What is the latest and best cfw this thing can run?

    2) What other add-ons will I need to get this working, if any?

    3) Can I change out the firmware on this thing without bricking it, since it was already changed out before?

    4) I experienced a few issues copying .iso's to this PSP via USB. Copies would just terminate randomly, partway through the process, and I'd have to disconnect the PSP and reconnect it to try again. I eventually got the .iso's to copy but I had to try each one like 6-8 times each. I tried formatting the memory card also, it had no effect. Any thoughts on that?

    1) Not that familiar with CFW options nowadays, but Pro-B10 (google it) supports a wide variety of firmware and all models. There's a perma-install option for 1000/early-2k models also.

    2) None for Pro.

    3) Should be fine? Been awhile since I had my old PSP which died, but I had a pandora battery as a fallback if it ever bricked for some reason.

    4) Could be a touchy USB cable. I always used a card-reader on my PC since it's 4x faster to transfer stuff.
