Summer Loans for College

What are good places to apply for Summer loans for college. I've already accepted the fact that I'll be swimming in debt just looking for the shallowest amount to swim in.

Have you filled out your Fafsa? I'd go for a grant before going for a loan.

I filled out FAFSA but the financial aid office said there weren't gonna be any Pell Grants for the summer (at least in PA). I'm hoping I don't need any, but knowing a good place to get loans wouldn't hurt.

There is no federal assistance for summer classes. If you get excess financial aid form fall or spring, you can save that money and use it for summer, but FAFSA does not apply to summer classes.

Your only option is private loans (Chase, Wells Fargo, lolSallie Mae), which I do not recommend (high interest rates, it will never go away, you'll need a cosigner). You may have accepted the fact you will be swimming in debt, but when you graduate and see your monthly minimum is between $500-$1000/mo it's not so easy to shrug off.

If possible, I would get a personal loan from a family member.

Why not student loans directly from the Dept. of Education instead of private financial institutions? I believe that was a big benefit to student loan reforms made last year. As far as I know the private loans are just government loans routed through business to make a profit on interest since the government pays the institutions if you default on them.

Well, my total for the whole summer would be $2400 I think which seems like a lot now that I think about it. I'm hoping I can work and save up before each term to pay for it.

Retaking to get a 4.0 is a pretty bad idea, I've heard it's not that much easier the 2nd time.

At my school it's much easier, teachers use same test and everything. I need it pretty much if I want to get into Med school.

1) A 4.0 won't get you into med school
2) Retakes aren't applied at every med school, some view them in different ways.

I guess if it was a REALLY shitty grade in a prereq then I can see why you'd retake. But one or two classes shouldn't be hurting you that bad. All situational I suppose.

Should focus on entrance exams, letters of recommendation, related work and volunteer experience and getting published.

Anatomy and Physiology, Behavioral Psychology last semester. I was a freshman.

Idk about Med but most graduate programs, that I've looked at anyway, require 3.0 for last sixty credits. Of course you'll definitely want a 3.5+ but they dont care you got two C's as a freshman

Those aren't prereqs. If they were 300+ level that looks bad, but in your situation I would just work harder in the coming years. Showing a strong upward trend is really important. Getting a C in a psych class is pretty bad though. Good luck once you get to Organic Chemistry and classes like Biochemistry.

If you do retake, just know that it's mainly for your own psyche, it's not going to improve your application THAT much. Ace your classes from here on out and you'll be better off.
