Those aren't prereqs. If they were 300+ level that looks bad, but in your situation I would just work harder in the coming years. Showing a strong upward trend is really important. Getting a C in a psych class is pretty bad though. Good luck once you get to Organic Chemistry and classes like Biochemistry.

If you do retake, just know that it's mainly for your own psyche, it's not going to improve your application THAT much. Ace your classes from here on out and you'll be better off.

And 2nding headspaces comments. Grades are only a small piece.

I get my grade for orgo II on tuesday, had a 95% going into the final so I think I'll be good... It was stupid ACS final though, ridiculous shit I'd never seen on there. Biochem was harder though, sitting at a 90.8% after the final and supposedly the teacher curves so it should be an A. Hoping and praying. lol

Retaking to get a 4.0 is kinda lol, but $2600 isnt going to make or break you either.

I assume you're going to be working this summer as well right? Can you borrow from a relative and pay them back with that?

I would be doing these things, but decided that I need not worry about it if it's not that big of a deal as a freshman.

It's not that it's not a big deal, you just really need to improve in the future. Starting out with a C or two can be made up for, but it's an uphill battle no matter what you do now. Study hard.

Your only option is private loans (Chase, Wells Fargo, lolSallie Mae), which I do not recommend (high interest rates, it will never go away, you'll need a cosigner). You may have accepted the fact you will be swimming in debt, but when you graduate and see your monthly minimum is between $500-$1000/mo it's not so easy to shrug off.

If possible, I would get a personal loan from a family member.
I just got $1100 Fed grant and $800 WA grant for summer quarter.

You can get federal assistance at any time of year. There are no Department of Ed limitations on spring/summer/fall/winter or whatever. If your school is telling you it's not available it's because of them and not the DoE. The federal Pell school year runs from July 1st until June 30th of the following year. The reason they are probably telling you it's not available is because you only have 5550$ for that entire year, that's where it caps if you even qualifiied for all of it. Once you use it, it's gone and you have to use the subsidized and unsubsidized loans for the rest up to a maximum of 9500 for a 9 month academic school year. If your summer classes start before July 1st, it is likely that you have already used up any pell that you had for this school year or didn't qualify for any. And, since you're going to need all of your pell for the next school year fall/spring, it would be stupid for them to use it for you for summer classes since those aren't the primary terms and just extra classes.

As far as your loan period goes, that is the 9 month or 30 week academic school year. If they started your last loan period in the fall it would run you through both your fall and spring semesters. Aug/sep/oc/nov/dec/jan/feb/mar/apr is probably a good estimate of what it is. So for your sub/unsub you only have 9500 max available for those months plus the max of 5550 pell for that july1 -june30 period. If you wanted to use loans for the summer they would need to begin a new, 9 month/30 week loan period which would run perhaps june/jul/aug/oc/nov/dec/jan/feb/mar which might mean that you wouldn't have enough loans to cover your main spring semester unless you had the extra money to come out of pocket to pay any gap by the time you reached that part.

I would strongly advise against re-taking classes or going pre-med if you can't get an A in a freshmen level anatomy class. Don't do private loans. Just enjoy your summer, study hard and go back in the fall and do better. Unless you want to go to a lol medical school you not only need the good grades but extra curriculars are even more important. Getting involved, doing student teaching as you get into upper level classes and run extra credit labs for professors that have them. Get into research projects or anything that you can add to your resume.

But with regards to the financial aid part, my first paragraph explains it and i'm sure if you took that to your schools financial aid office they would confirm that for you.

My federal Pell grant for last semester says $1800. If I apply for it for summer classes after July, would it take away from the rest of what I would get through the year? At the rate I'm going, it looks like I might not go during next spring semester, but I'm not 100% sure of it yet.

It depends on what you qualified for the entire 10-11 school year. If your pell for last semester is 1800$ that is probably all that was left that could be budgeted for. If your school budgeted you using loans and leaving extra pell just sitting there I would bitch out your financial aid department.

You can only qualify for a max of 5550$ in pell money from july 1st 2010 until June 30 2011. If it's the case you still have 1800$ left available after your spring semester and your summer classes start on or before June 30th you can still apply any remaining pell toward that so it's not "lost" money.

I would need more info on exactly what's left, what's used and when terms start to be able to let you know more specifically what your options are.
