    Nintendo DS r4 question

    I got an R4 from a friend a while ago and I lost my Micro SD card.

    Will there be anything I need to do to configure the new card, or can I just plug it in and it'll work as the last one did?

    Now, I was using the micro SD as a flashcard for a class, which is why I lost it. That being said, I made a folder on my desktop, copied all the games/files to it, and then cleared the card for school stuff, so would I be able to just put it all back on the new SD card and have it work?

    As long as you copied the file structure right it should. There is a good chance you shouldn't just copy the folder but everything in the folder onto the root of the SD card, but it varies depending on the maker of the flashcard.

    Yup, as long as you copied all the kernal files, which I hope is Wood R4 as it is the most kept up to date kernal for R4. Is what I used til I got an Acekard and gave the R4 to my sister inlaw.

    Just in case you need to update. http://www.r4wood.com/pages/Wood-R4-Kernel.html

    you need the latest wood r4 and the latest r4ds ysmenu.

    SOOO much easier than back when you had to build ysmenu from scratch works great.

    First thing, thanks for that kernel update for the R4!

    Question, the instructions require me to actually FORMAT the microSD then put everything the 2 .zip files into the root of the R4 and that's it? Is it truly necessary to format the microSD?

    Nope, it always says that but it never makes a difference. I think it is just to make sure dumb folk don't have 2 copies of the files on the card.

    From what I've noticed, updating the firmware usually allows you to play newer games with anti-pirating stuff on 'em. I'm pretty sure there are also other changes that are made, but that's the main reason why I keep my firmware up to date.

    It gets to the "Loading..." on the top screen and never actually loads. Am I doing something wrong?

    Never really had an issue with Wood R4, though I didnt use YSMenu, just put the wood R4 kernal in, started the DS, booted right into it. Picked the folder, picked a game, loading screen came up just for a few seconds and the game would start... Not sure what it could be for you.

    Edit: Did some quick research, found a guide that seems exactly what I did. A bit in depth, but not to long. Give it a read and see if it all makes sense. Can start at step 4 as all the stuff before it is buying a R4, what kind did you get, how to format your SD card etc. Step 4 is the meat of what I used.

    Sounds like the anti-piracy on the ROM kicking in. Try and download something that is pre-patched. I know on Acekard you can hit and hold I think it's L+ a face button to change the "loader" it uses. I had a game that wouldn't load on the default (tetris actually iirc), but using a different one (the loading text will change to a diff color if you did it right) it worked just fine. When it wouldn't load it would just show the black screen with "Loading" and never do anything and I'd have to turn off the DS to get otu of it. It's also the anti-piracy breaking things if the game locks up at the same point every time, like Main Phase 1 in YGO WC 2011.... well usually it is, but some may just be shitty coding. >.>;

    The Acekard has an option in the "start" menu buried in one of the later screens called "Disable Anti-Piracy" which you would want enabled. Don't think it is on by default. Probably does a sketchy job and is just used when you can't find a patch to the game, but hey worth a try right?

    Hope that helps some. I don't have and never have had an R4 so can only give Acekard advice and hope it carries over OK. ><

    EdiT: Should add I'm using AKAIO (latest) on my Acekard and never used the normal firmware so IDK if those options typically exist.
