Wow, one of the most intelligent posts in the entire RDM forum gets nuked (sorry Eeek), and Greatguardian is starting to sound as cynical as me after 5 years of posting in the Alla WAR forums. The Official Forums have hit a new low.

I wish SE would give what all of the mouthbreathers want re: a definitive direction on RDM and just remove them from swords and daggers. I'd love to see them reason away why they're still allowed to melee since they have clubs.

I am amazed that Duelle cannot see the absurdity in why it isn't that big of a deal to just catapult RDM to the forefront of melee tiers. I mean, they get a sword! And spells! They should be the best with all of the tools available! It totally wouldn't unbalance anything at all and would adhere to the old FF content AND the naming conventions on their AF!

They basically already did with their "Job Vision" manifesto. Buffers and Debuffers, powerful mages. Not jack shit about hybrids or melees or anything. Good luck telling them that, though.

Some people just like being an underdog, no matter how absurd it is or if they actually believe in the cause or not. Being "oppressed" makes them feel good about themselves at the end of the day. It's a lot more epic to fight for the rights of the underrepresented melee faction than to ride the RDM gravy train and admit that the class is ridiculously powerful outside of Abyssea. Epic struggles breed epic internet pussy, obviously. Dude's just a playa.

Was Red Mage good in *any* FF? I wasn't impressed with it in FF3, its decent enough early on when spells are limited and the piddly sword damage is actually a decent contribution when you're traversing dungeons but lol when you got to the boss. FFTA2 had double cast, but that's all it had going for it? I haven't played through FF1 or FF5, and I can't think of any other FF that had red mage in it as a defined job.

I did a quick search myself and it's basically FF1, and only when upgraded to Red Wizard could you call Rdm a decent melee. III was probably the worst incarnation, 5 was good early and late game apparently and sucked midgame.

Yeah yeah, I was referring more to the "SE DIDN'T SAY ANYTHING ABOUT MELEE, WHY DON'T THEY LOVE USSSSSS" and meant it as more of a wish that SE would close the case for good. I fully comprehend what SE had in mind with the manifesto but cannot for the life of me get why people think that isn't a clear answer.

Nope, no changes to my account since I updated my credit card info over a year ago.
I think I read that the service was down until after registration server maintenance or something. Maybe I'm wrong, I'll try in a day or two again and see what it does.

Heh, it's okay. I'll normally compose posts to walk that fine line between relevancy and salty incredulousness, but I was careless and quickly hacked out the post before I left to meet friends for dinner. It was not a surprise to get the ol' 'that's a bad Eeek - we nuked your post' email. Besides, Greatguardian's posts are substantially better than mine in both writing style and substance. I'd enjoy nothing more, on these forums, than to see Alla's melee RDMs saunter off to wallow in their complete irrelevancy on Alla. On Alla, you're just the FFXI community's running joke - here, you all can do substantial damage if someone mistakenly takes your ideas seriously.
