I think adding tags is about my only contribution to the official forums. Far much more hilarity can be had there than dealing with the toothless 27 chromosomed mouth breathing denizens of the official forums.

I'm trying to figure out his point out of context though. What is it? FF jobs have always been put into archtypes. Expecting anything else = you want to play a different class, so go fucking play it.

The point was simply that people were asking to play Blue Mage or Dancer without having to level a new job to do it. The names may be the same ones used in past FFs, but the jobs themselves aren't required to evolve in the same way, which was my point. They can call the job whatever they want, just because it's "Red Mage" doesn't mean it has to be an awesome melee job. Just because a job is "Monk" doesn't mean it has to be a melee class. Hell, in many games and contexts, Monks are healers or mages of some sort.

The post was simply a response to the on-going load of bullshit that certain posters have been spewing on pretty much every job subforum I've read. "Red Mages in other games/context/lore do this, so we should do this on Red Mage too." "Ninjas use Shurikens in Naruto so we should have Shuriken attacks too." "Paladins are white knights so we should blah blah bloody blah".

I'd much rather look at suggestions and improvements in the context of Final Fantasy XI, its current job development, and the mechanics that the jobs must function within than the context of "Devs are magic and I liked FF7 so make me like sephiroth cuz i haz katana on samurai plz".

Ah ok. Then I got your point, and lacked context to fully appeciate it.

owleyes is as useless as meleing on pup, a RDM is never idle it's always active. It's not a surprise to anyone that you farm crap like this, paired with pdt and mdt. In nowadays FFXI the only RDM equip that are usefull are buff duration extension, MND, nuke, full AF3+2 and the appropriate damage + staves and crimson cuisses.

Honestly SE is going to have a hard time releasing gear that would be more useful if they do not unlock various stats cap (like MND) ; it's not specific to mages anyway.

You can argue that rdm melee is dumb but be sure to not use non retarded argument against it (like capping hate on rdm => you need mdt or -enmity gear) or requiring staves for magic acc or w/e.

Keep your haste, fast cast, pdt,mdt and hmp gear for yourself but please leave us alone with your dumb gear.
