I won't go to say the mindset of "I want to be completley anonymous!" is bad, I just personally have never understood it.

I don't go around handing out my personal info, I just never found a FFXI Character name/server to be that "private". Its not everyones excuse, but I feel most of the people complaining probably make repeatedly stupid fucking posts and just are afraid people will now know who "that retard on the forum" is and they fear they'll be harassed/stalked (Which almost NEVER happens), or just have something to hide (See: The trolls, Hordecore, etc).

Theres other reasons, I simply don't understand them. Not that they're wrong.

Edit: Also i could care less if this was Implemented. I don't care about a persons name or server. All i need to know about them is in their posts, that tells me if they're stupid or not.

Negatives? None. I'm the only Greatguardian on any server, so if people gave a shit they could look me up and see my rag-tag gimpshit WHM (or whatever's on XIAH) whenever they want.

Positives? Dallas's server/name. Hordecore's. Akujima's. Etc etc etc. Contrary to popular Official Forum belief, I don't want their names to harass them in-game (lol), more so that I know who to avoid like the plague and as a reference for how often they're talking completely out of their ass.

I really don't get it either, I mean on WoW's forums you have to post on one of your active toons. I almost always posted on my level 20ish Pally, never my main, sure there's some who call you out about posting on an alt (mostly when they have no better argument) but for the most part no one gives a shit who you are. I never once got bothered by anyone in WoW about a post I made.

Unless your character names is your full name and SSN, I don't see why people are so worried. They make it sound like the end of the world. It's really not. Fucking babies.

I could see the argument if that requirement was implemented on a non-official forum (i.e., here), but honestly most people voluntarily offer up that information either by their username or by their profile information. The Official Forums, which require an active XI account to even use? Yeah, it's not a far-fetched idea.

I was only contacted once by someone in-game over a BG-incident (they made a mule on Caitsith to whine about being banned) and I reemed them out with full guns for approaching me like that. And then screenshotted all of it and had mad laffs in the mod forums.

I've been recognized on FFXI, mostly from here. People were always like, "Wait, are you *that* Aksannyi?" as if there was ever another Aksannyi anywhere else ever. But seriously if people are going to be butthurt about being recognized, post on a mule, only your friends will know who you are. People bitch about shit that's so easy to fix.

I need to find some form of punishment for allowing myself to read the job threads again. Some are okay, but then I hit the ones that want to make me slam my head through the desk and maybe to the floor below. Lately I've been browsing the THF job threads 'cause I figure hey, I wanna put a little more work into my THF, make it a bit more than the backup-TH6/mid-level DD (My THF needs a good deal of improvement). I apologize if someone has mentioned this previously and I missed it, but this Covenant guy... ugh.

Just reading the thread titles alone made me wary:

Thief update ~ new job ability "money-bag" attack - Gil Toss. This one actually sounds interesting, it's canonical and allows us to make use of gil again. Only credit he's gotten so far.

Thief-Update-Utsemi-Souleater-boost-like-attack - Lolwut? Apparently he wants a Souleater type move for THFs for X-amount of attacks or something.

Thief update ~ job ability "Mug" to share "aural steal"(?) - He wants Mug to do Aura Steal too. Um. Meh, not like the last one but this one still makes me shake my head.

Pretty much this guy thinks he's Altana's Gift to Thieves and he's annoying as hell.

People send me tells in game and ask if there's anything I want tested. It's pretty nice, lol.

Meh, I'm actually more shocked people try to hide who they are in-game on a Forum dedicated to that game. I understand the entire idea of internet anonymity, Especially if you make yourself look like an ass or retard basically in all your posts, I just never thought of a FFXI Character as "Private" information.

Then again, on the other hand, if people are really so afraid their Stupid will now be linked to their in-game name, They can use a mule and remain mostly anonymous. Which brings me to question why they bother implementing this, and why it has to be mandatory.

I used to be efamous in Ultima Online because I ran an informational website for the game. I made no secret about my in game name, but I did keep my alt's names private. It was difficult playing as my main because people had all these assumptions about me. I would have people interrupt what I was doing and start awkward conversations as if I knew who they were. There were other people who expected me to give or sell them specific items that my site dealt with. When all my friends quit playing, I had to make new friends by playing as my alts. I recently hopped on a popular freeshard (emulated server) and used my old name. I had one guy ask me if I was "that <playername> on <thatserver>", when I confirmed, he called me something to the effect of "a stuck up bitch."

I can sympathize with people who fear being singled out. But most people on the official forums are stupid or trolls and deserve to have their stupid exposed.

I still visit time and time but I've noticed an increasing amount of stupid and butthurt taking over.

I feel we're fighting a losing battle. The level of Ignorance and refusal to learn is beyond anyones belief. Its getting stupider and stupider and anyone who shows a level of intelligence is Nerd-Raged off the forum with the level of stupidity that on some occasions comes close to Starcade.

The forums really are becoming Ala-2. Without the redeeming qualities.

The other problem is that they're not being moderated by content (Quality) but by content(Doesn't say naughty words). 10 people calling 1 person a retard, and the 10 people are wrong for using the R word? Yeah ok sure, have fun with the box of re...I mean, special people.

I learned to bite my tongue there, but sometimes its too much. I can understand why some people get banned =.=a. Its a shame Stupid is bannable like it is here.

I stopped checking the official forums on a semi-regular basis because I can't post anymore due to my deactivated FFXI account. It's just not as much fun when you're unable to directly engage and argue with the posters there. I did see some dumb posts over the weekend, but I was to lazy to SS and upload them.
