I'd say that I'm being "reasonable" over there. Nice is a bit of a strong word. The fact that I can avoid being obviously hostile to stupidity and horrible ideas is more a sign of personal restraint than deception.

To be honest, not really. I look at it more like the dichotomy between the settings of the workplace meeting and the place where a few co-workers enjoy a drink or two after work. The latter is far less socially restrained than the former. The friends commiserate over the meddling and absurd decisions made by upper management, but in a workplace meeting, a regular employee can't blurt out "Fucking VPs and their dumbshit ideas are giving me a brain tumor!" without expecting to test the waters in the job market shortly afterwards.

The official forums are prominently linked on the FFXI homepage, so I can't fault SE for wanting to keep the forums relatively under control. The forums need to be an inclusive, welcoming place for players and a source of tempered discussion and information for the Community Team and Developers.

I'm glad the Community Team follows sites like this one. It gives them more (and arguably better) perspectives on what's going on in FFXI. If the Community Team wants blunt and often funny perspectives on official forum discussions, this is the place to check out.

I think the Community Team enjoys the Media forum anyways. As evidenced by this letter from the Community Team in December and this post on the official forums, they're not that much different than us. Unlike us, though, corporate policy and practices restrict what they can post and where they can post it. Like us, they love a good laugh and probably enjoy and share the crazy shit that's posted in Media. It's clear they enjoy interacting with players and keeping tabs on what's going in in FFXI.
