Isn't there a post/study/whatever done a long time ago showing anything in the 4th slot of a non-PL'd merit party that wasn't a BRD or COR was a wasted slot due to over TP'ing and TP waste?

Also I have a suspicion if there were 3 good DD's the mob would be dead shortly after the Dia III fired off, leaving a lot to be desired for that "80%"

It all fairness, he linked to something TummieGaruda (ImmortalAlchemist on Alla) found in the .dats (the only worthwhile post on that page). Tummie used to post his .dat mining findings here, but he primarily posts on Alla.

I kinda liked Tummie's posts about that stuff but I think he cared waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much about wanting credit for just posting dat information like it was super important that he got credit for it.

I'd be pissed too if someone copy-pasted my work, didn't give me credit, and then they claimed it as their own. It's blatantly disrespectful and outright serious misconduct in some disciplines. Besides, BG people are rarely happy whenever Wiki people copy-paste information from BG into the Wiki without citations.

Why do you assume others copied Tummie's work rather than mining the dats on update day themselves and being a bit slower on getting them up? How would you even tell them apart?

Copy/pasting data someone else copy/pasted from POLUtils is a lot different than claiming you wrote POLUtils itself. "Work" is what Byrthnoth is doing, and is worthy of giving credit to.

I dunno, it's a pita to format some .dat stuff. I can understand why Tummie would be upset. Julian generally posts links to his database, but it isn't as easy to copy and post when people talk about it. It's not hard to throw a link in there and say where the info came from, and it's probably a good idea to do it.

Also, I mostly request that FFXIclopedia take stuff down because they're blatantly going against their own policies when stuff like that shows up uncited. Essentially every significant piece of information that the site hosts has been pillaged from a forum uncredited at some point or another. It's such an obvious pattern (citations are *so* sparse) that their submission terms are kind of a mockery. For instance, check this and this out compared to this and this.

They may have re-ordered the word and added a hyphen and a comma, but they kept my low probability word choice. It's highly unlikely that they repeated the testing, and it's uncited. Should I let them keep it? Eh! I can't seem to make an account to directly inform them, and when I posted on one of the admin's pages on ffxiclopedia and he basically told me there was no problem. That test took me ~four hours because of Climactic's recast and my insistence on finding out whether it was Crit Attack Bonus or a separate bonus. I replied to him again (didn't use a header last time), but I'm not sure anything is going to happen with it. It kind of doesn't matter, because bgwiki had that information exclusively and cited for several months, and no one uses gamer escape.

He suspected it was happening, so a few times he slipped nonexistent (and worthless) or old items into his .dat list that weren't in the actual update, and those same items showed up in other peoples' lists.

It's similar to how Cartographers have no copyright over the correct portions of their maps (because it's public-domain information), so some of them put in nonexistent tiny towns out in the middle of nowhere (which they do own the copyright over, since they created the fictional town), so they can prove someone copypasta'd their map simply by showing the plagiarizer's map has their invented fictional town on it.

I only did a quick-and-dirty search since I'm about to do something else, and I couldn't find the thread I wanted (yet). But yeah, neither Julian or TummieGaruda like it when others blatantly copy-paste their findings without giving credit where credit is due.

Hey, you people who copy and paste other people's mining stuff on other forums, without permission, at least give a little bit of appreciation to the people who do this and give them some credit, rather than just blatantly copying all of it. Or better yet, just link them to the page rather than copy and pasting it.

I know how you feel man, it used to happen to me all the time no matter how many times you ask people not to copy/paste unless giving credit, they still will post. At one point, I thought about doing my list as a JPEG with watermarks on it, but that is too much trouble.

While people generally don't care about such threads on a day to day basis, this doesn't stop the same people from spamming F5 on those threads come major update days.

Say what you will about the importance of Xanthe's/Julian's/TummieGaruda's work versus Byrth's work (not to mention the work of Kaeko and others), but all of them deserve the credit they've rightfully earned. This shouldn't be a foreign concept either - proper citation and academic integrity, which absolutely is relevant to this discussion, should be a familiar concept to high school students and certainly to college students and academics.

Yes, because everyone who reads the thread is at home (or is lucky enough to be able to sneak FFXI onto their work computers) and already has their FFXI patched up. When I was out of work, I was lucky to be *starting* my updating (and I do know how to update early) before people already have information posted.
