No way to stop Morta from eating adds for HP other than killing the adds, or stun-locking Morta?
We're not a full ally tonight, but was doing decent dmg until proc messages started not appearing for a good 10min, then end up with HV being shit we don't have (lolPUP & no MNK), and it got to eat 3 adds during the fight until we called a run away. We tried keeping the adds as far away as possible from Morta, seems to make zero difference.
Would have been long dead if it didn't chow down, NM pretty damn easy to handle otherwise if you can keep a steady flow of triggers. ;/
[EDIT] Well, that's ToA path done. Bugger tried to eat a mob at 2%. Now if only chairman of CoP path wasn't such bullshit.
chair guy took us a second night to beat, first night absolutely nothing went right. We tried taking it slow and killing the adds, we tried zerging, procs just stopped coming after awhile and then captain rapeface ate us everytime. Second night we said screw it, got some embrava action going and actually had good procs. Kept him locked the majority of the fight and took him down so easily that it really pissed us off. Random is random I guess.
Yeah, he reminds me of the Wyrm from last chapter. Plan for a zerg, and hope to get the clear. At least it drops nothing worthwhile for the majority of folks.
Would be a little more managable if the adds didn't follow their own hate rules.
So what are morta's TP moves/spells besides beautiful death and full bloom? And how/when does it summon adds?
The Dvergr isn't that bad if you do it properly.. and the strategy was posted more than once already as well. We had exactly 3 deaths when we did it yesterday and zero problems, and it wasn't a fulltime stagger or straight out zerg one.
Use 2 PLDs, a RNG or 2 with a low enmity WS(this would be the hard part about setting it up, while 1 Anni RNG is enough, I doubt a Arma RNG would be) who get BRD+COR buffs, a few DD/BLM to stagger the NM, and the healers.
One PLD tanks the main NM. The other one keeps hate on the minis, DD TP on those minis and WS and stagger the main NM only, and zerg during red/white staggers. The RNG(s) are on it fulltime and are the main source of damage. BLM stagger the NM as usual.
And to add to the drops, Fjalar drops Penelope's Cloth(used in at least Hexed Jacket, maybe other synths as well).
Actually, according to Wowwiki (lol):
Proc is a common term used primarily in game programming to refer to an event - a "procedure" - triggered under particular circumstances. For example, in WoW, a particular weapon (that hits many times) might have a 10% chance on each hit to apply a special effect, such as poison damage. When WoW users talk about "how often this weapon procs", they are talking about the likelihood of the special effect occurring.
Proc was originally short for "spec_proc" (spec_proc is short for "special procedure") which is a term used by the original programmer of Circle-MUD, Jeremy Elson. It might have been used as well by the original programmers of diku-MUD as well. Special procedures in Circle-MUD are functions that can be assigned to objects, players, and locations in the world such that each time an event occurs, the special procedure function will be invoked. Special procedures were used in Circle-MUD for a wide variety of purposes: Creating room events when a person typed a specific string of text, causing a weapon or piece of armor to perform a magical action, and even causing a MOB (mobile) to do something that it wouldn't normally do.When developers and players were talking about these special procedures they abbreviated the term to "proc". Over time the noun also became a verb, "proced" ("proc'd" or "procced"), which meant that the special procedure was invoked and performed its action.ミ☆ Themoreyouknow ミ☆"Programmed Random OCcurence" is another definition, thought to be correct by many WoW users, though whether or not it is indeed correct is debatable.
EDIT: WTF, Ponyplay?
Aht Urghan Route Step 2: Morta
Morta is actually a very straightforward fight, and is much easier than its beachgoing counterpart. It does the following stuff (*** means other players or JP Wiki reports it, but I haven't seen it over the 20+ times I've fought it, likely because I've never had all the adds be dead for any reason):
Full Bloom: Kills a rafflesia, recovers ~25,000HP and gains a potent stoneskin effect. It is recommended to have a dedicated stunner to deal with this move, since it draws out the fight.
Atropine Spore: Front Conal Breath Damage + Sleep + Paralyze + Silence
Night Stalker: Damage + (?)
Deracinator: Damage + (?)
Frond Fatale: Charm + Calls Rafflesia ***
Beautiful Death: Area of Effect Charm + Doom + Rafflesia Costume ***
Chainspell: Unlike Rex, she'll continue to do melee damage during Chainspell and her magic isn't all that threatening. I recommend mitigating it with potions.
She can chainspell multiple times. I'd only use fools if your fanatic's is down and don't have another to use, since she still does her spinning top move prety frequently during this period.
(One or more of these moves may damage MP, but I don't know).
Occasionally, in place of a melee attack, Morta will spin around like a six-year old who got into the kool-aid-powder for moderate (~600-800?) AoE damage.
Magic: Earth and Dark based magic, including Stone V, Quake II, (Stonega IV/Stoneja?), AoE Drain, and (AoE Aspir (?)). Spells in parentheses I can't recall if she uses or not.
JP Wiki lists Frond Fatale and Beautiful Death as moves, and Draylo has confirmed Beauiful Death as a move that it uses when Rafflesia are dead. I have never seen Frond Fatale nor have I heard anyone mention it, so the actuall English name is just a guess. That's the best I can figure based on the Japanese name (monster moves in Japanese tend to be transliterated English moves). I have never seen either of these moves because we have never killed all of the Rafflesia, nor has Morta managed to eat all of them.
A standard pet-supertanking Voidwatch setup works for Morta. The Rafflesia pop several seconds after she spawns, so you'll want to either have the PLD pop or voke it off of whatever unfortunate mage you made do the popping because no one else had the abyssite. Once the adds spawn, the PLD can hatelessly supertank them off to the side ( dedicated WHM support recommended) while the rest of the alliance takes Morta away. Her TP moves, spells, and damage potential is actually quite low, but she has pretty high evasion, defense, and her high level means that level correction is going to slow down your melees in general. Chaos roll is recommended for both melee parties, and Ageha really helps too.
PLD/WAR WHM/SCH BLM/something BLM/DRK RDM/BLM BLU/DRG | NIN/DNC COR WHM/SCH WAR/SAM* SAM/WAR* MNK/WAR* | COR DRK/WAR* SAM/WAR* WAR/SAM* BRD/WHM WHM/SCH is my usual target setup for Morta. RDM/BLM is the dedicated stun.
Duplicate melees are interchangeable, and you should put your "best" melees in the party with the BRD+COR. Don't bring SMN or PUP, weird hate stuff with the automaton/avatar can screw up super tanking. However, I've also seen a PLD hold them with Circle blade successfully after a mistake. Of course, other setups work too, this is just what I generally bring.
Some nerdy notes: Morta is a Roman goddess of death, hence her "screw you up" move, Beautiful Death. Her Greek counterpart is Atropos, which lends its name to the plant genus containing Atropa belladona, deadly nightshade, as well as atropine, the toxic compound derived from it ("Atropine Spore"). Belladonna (italian for "pretty lady" - also hinted at in "Beautiful Death") is indeed one of the common names for deadly nightshade, and lends itself to Morta's family name (Belladonna sap) and synthesis material drop.
Frond Fatale is a real TP move used by Morta, it just used it after all its adds were killed/eaten. AoE Charm and respawned all the adds again.
Night Stalker: Damage + Wipes TP of target I believe. One move does at the very least and to the best of my recollection it is this move.
Deracinator: Damage + Bind+Muddle+Amnesia. Highly annoying if ya get hit by this with fanatics down as you can't reapply Fanatics till muddle wears which lasts 60secs.
Did morta today before reading that, and I'm pretty sure it used full bloom as it's TP move 100% of the time across 4 fights. It didn't spam TP every few seconds like a normal VW NM either, the entire fight was basically:
melee for 10s or so
attempt to use full bloom
melee for 10s or so
cast a spell
repeat
That was literally it. As long as you have a 2-3 person stun rotation for TP moves it was very easy with a standard setup. A rdm with a good recast setup could probably solo stun.
Well see that isn't just doing it properly it's also luck which has also been stated. Most the time the our other pld couldn't even get hate let alone keep it on the minis. In fact a few of them stayed on me all the way till they died without me touching them. This actually happens a decent amount of the time. Plus the other pld was ochain so kinda got raped when fools went down lol.
Also if your rngs are tping and barraging on the main they will get hate regardless. I mean 1 good barrage could cap your hate lol. And ours didn't seem to understand that. Luckily there was 3 of them and we had enough procs where I had fanatics or sentinel up at all times.
Also a bit of luck dependent on how fast it spawns and what tp moves it does and timing with spells and/or adds doing stuff. Anyone who says it's easy should try it repeatidly. If you can win regularly then maybe lol
1) Had PLD pull Morta's adds like 40'+ away and Full Bloom still activated and healed her.
2)Someone mentioned that pets screw up enmity with adds and will make the adds randomly lose hate or something and claimed it was a bug. I didn't buy it but since he had alliance leader he told me to dismiss my wyvern.
3)Full Bloom seems like a time-based TP move and you can't prevent it except to just deal more damage than she heals herself for overtime and seems to just be part of the overall tone of the fight. Basically a big "Deal with it" from SE.
You can stun full bloom just fine.
I added complete notes based on fight logs for all of the tier 1 Aht Urhgan mobs to BG Wiki (Brekekekex, Yalungur, Vanasarvik, and Dimgruzub) including unique TP moves and behaviors as well as spell lists. I think most everything is complete, except I was not able to determine the effects of Vanasarvik's unique TP move "Dark Recital" as everyone had Fanatic's Drink up when he tried to use it. Does anyone know if it's just AoE damage? I assume some status effects are associated as well. Only fought Yalungur once and did not see any drop besides Ereptor Lance, so I'm not sure if there is an associated second drop (if it's like the rest, there should be some rare/ex armor piece in addition to the rare weapon (Ereptor Lance)). Maybe it's the Gardyloo pants? The update notes said "The item Gardyloo Pants is undergoing attribute adjustments and thus cannot be obtained."
The pet thing works something like this, using JoL as an example since it's very easily reproducible there.
SMN has avatar out.
JoL summons pets.
SMN releases avatar without doing anything, and before anyone has touched the pets.
Pets rape SMN.
Same can happen with PW, Vrtra, etc.
Somehow, Release causes unclaimed and untouched NM pets to hate the SMN, even if they're across the room minding their own business and didn't even BP or do anything with them. Simply releasing will get their attention.
I haven't really paid much attention to see how it works on VW NMs.
I'm fairly sure I got hate on the supertanked lamps when I summoned Alex against PW too.
It is pretty unclear to me why it happens, but it definitely does happen. I don't think it happens all the time, either.
