    well, you dont need to start ZM to flag with Kieran right? that means once you get your rank 3 you can just start on Tier 1 and 2 of Zilart VW.. its just tier 3 that requires ZM missions no?

    You technically can still participate.. just not go all the way lol

    Yeah, I guess... what a joke, though. Not that I really care one way or the other, but you'd think they'd just make sky access a requirement from the onset, or at least have mentioned it in the update notes.

    Unrelated to that, does anyone know if Akvan's Deathly Glare is frontal only or full AoE? One thing I did notice yesterday was that if you were in the AoE and you had your back turned (and subsequently didn't die), it would still do some low amount of AoE damage to you (400~500).

    Yeah definitely does some damage in AoE fashion(300-500 like you said), we were pretty good at facing away so hard to tell if death is AoE or conal.

    And then there are some that are still hard even with 3+ RNG. We were having trouble dealing enough damage to Ildebrann while using the "keep it flying" strategy (SMN and BLM weren't enough dmg as it has some form of -MDT) and eventually resorted to zerging it while on the ground with HQ procs and Fanatic's Drinks. We got the win, but I swear that wyrm is from the deepest charnel pits of hell and should have been a T3....

    Yeah, we wound up doing Ildebrann on the ground as well. The terror is annoying, like everyone says, but outside that, he's not really any more or less dangerous on the ground than he is in the sky. It's 20' AoE so mages can keep out of range as long as they are paying attention.

    Pickup mages have no idea what this mythical "20' AoE range" is.

    Pickup melee also don't understand that moving the monster puts mages either in AoE range or out of casting range.

    I hadn't realized how bad the situation was until actively doing WoE with pickup mages. I realize that a good portion of them stand in AoE range purposely for damage taken credit, but the ones that are ~19-15 away are just like hnggggg.

    No, you can stun. But he'll just use it again and again (as soon as stun wears) until it gets off. It's a good tactic for getting people out of range if you have 2-3 stunners who are on the ball with an order setup, and melees ready to gtfo at a moment's notice. Repeated use of Fanatic's Drink with a good series of weakness staggers is obviously the best way to kill this guy, though. Remember if Fanatic's Drink is the only temp item you use, you're guaranteed to get it back even on crappy weakness procs.

    Is Pil Really that hard? We did it pretty easily with not nearly that many BLMs.

    It's hard if you go with a balanced setup with full-lights in mind.

    So what's the crash course on Akvan? Deathly Gaze is an AOE death gaze and.... is it just a normal Ahriman from there?

    Likes it's Lvl5 Petrify a lot, other than that, magic barrier can be a tit if you like to rely on stun for stopping Aga4/JA nukes.

    Akvan likes to spam magic shield, so you'll need non magic damage.

    Really it likes to spam magic shield > Level 5 Petrify. If you have a dnc you can stun the petrify np if they're paying attention. Not that the petrify is a problem just kind of a pain to be sitting there when he decides to deathly gaze your ass and you cant move.
