Damn if only you lived in D.C. I've heard of people getting off speeding tickets when the police mess up something on the ticket. The general public and court system hate us that much.

Sometimes you can get arrested for 15 over the speed limit so you got pretty damn lucky. I'd say pay it and don't push your luck since you're skating pretty damn clean now.

Oh and don't drive drunk. Unless your mass transit system is like New Yorks. Then drive drunk.

Not necessarily true. You still have to prove that the alcohol was the cause of the accident. I'll give you a for-instance. Let's say you're barely over the legal limit, and you're driving home and hit a pedestrian. The pedestrian was walking across the street where there wasn't a cross walk. The alcohol doesn't automatically make you liable.

Let's say you're barely over the legal limit, and you're driving home and hit a pedestrian. The pedestrian was walking across the street where there wasn't a cross walk. The alcohol doesn't automatically make you liable.

You'd still be fucked, not to mention the police investigation following a pedestrian struck call would easily get you busted for DUI and driving while intoxicated would still go down as the main cause of the accident. Even if the pedestrian ran across the street and a sober person had no way to avoid the accident.

The courts here are the ones who fuck it up. Prime example from 2 weeks ago, guy hit and killed a pedestrian while driving drunk.

Turns out it was his 17th DUI offense, and still had a valid drivers license.

Charges were always downplayed by the courts, as it seemed most times the charges were reduced to something that wasn't a DUI.

If the courts don't convict as a DUI, then the registry doesn't automatically revoke the license.

The charges would be different, however. Voluntary/DUI mansluaghter v involuntary manslaughter. I'm not saying that the driver wouldn't be found at any fault, I'm saying the alcohol wouldn't be a process of the charges/sentencing. Well, they probably would be, but any defense attorney worth his side of the bar would have it quickly dismissed. The reason I even brought up this example was I recalled such a case.

My sister got a speeding ticket at 7PM, but the officer wrote 7AM. Thought she could fight it in court. She got a notice a few days before court of a corrected ticket where he fixed the time.

Moral: Because they made some minor error on ticket doesn't mean you're off. If you murdered someone but the police misspelled your address do you think you'd be off?

Pretty much it does. It's more than trivial to attribute your lack of situational awareness to your intoxication. In fact, you don't even have to be over the legal limit to get DUI. As long as your actions can be attributed to your BAC, it doesn't matter how low it is. And when said action has anything to do with any kind of accident, you're fucked.
