As the title states, i'm in the market for a wide angle lens for my nikon camera. I pretty new to photography so i'm not sure which one to buy.

How wide? You have an 18-55 now? You have a full frame or crop sensor? I'm guessing a 10-24 would be what you are looking for.
Also, that particular lens will set you back about 900 bones.
Sorry, I should probably included what camera I have and lenses. I have a Nikon 3100 with a 18-55mm and 55-200mm lens. I was looking for a lens that would allow me to take some nice panoramic photos. With the 10-24mm lens that you suggested, would it only be able to handle panoramics or would it be able to also used for normal shots?
I guess since we're on the subject, what would be a nice lens that would give me the close up shots but still allow me get shots from far away?
Just get a decent tripod and stitch together multiple shots from the 18-55 for panoramas. Stitching through photoshop is mindlessly easy.
As far as a good zoom lens, the 55-200 is a good entry level telephoto. It's VR isn't it? Just not a real effective low light lens because it's a bit slow, but unless you're willing to jump up to some serious cash, it's a good alternative. Honestly, your budget dictates your options.
I decided to go with your idea to just stick together panoramas instead of buying a lens for it. I did however purchase Nikon 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR AF-S Nikkor Zoom Lens for Nikon Digital SLR so I don't have to switch between different lenses while im out shooting.
