Yeah, this is like the de facto way to tell that things are one-sided and you're likely just being used. I've seen almost exactly same thing, situation for situation, in at least 8-10 different instances of the great 'MMO-relationship' drama that is virtual dating.

Sad seeing this same thing happen so many times to friends over the years. :\

Keep this in mind going forward:

She may have been your best friend, and may have said she'll marry you, and may have told you that you mean the world to her... But all of that means absolutely nothing until she's willing to commit on a real, meaningful, and important level to you.

The fact that she so quickly gave up the major reservations she had against you when someone else was involved should write it in stone, that you were just being taken advantage of and that she was not anywhere near as serious about it as you were. Think about it. You were ready to give up everything, and she was willing to give up nothing. Major things she wouldn't budge on for years with you, she did in weeks for another.

In most cases of this one person only likes the idea of the other person or wants to keep it to fantasy, or simply craved the attention (this is especially true for those with social problems; IE, the girl you're talking about), or needed a temporary escape from the bad in their current relationship/real life, or wanted the gil/gold/gear, or is shallow is all fuck.

I'm sure that realizing you've more than likely been used this entire time may even be more painful than what you're going through now, but in that you at least know it is not your fault. The best thing you can do is acknowledge it for what it was, move on, and never let yourself get so involved with someone you haven't at least met.

I've seen situations very close to this quite a few times now, not very uncommon to make big $$$ in a tech field and still be socially inept/awkward/underdeveloped (especially when it's specifically involving women).

This is even more common in the MMO crowd.
