Expired registration ticket while parked on private property?

I left the house with my niece and nephew earlier today and I guess about 20 min after I left, a policeman went to the back of our driveway and issued a "Expired registration while on private property" ticket for my dad's Lincoln. State is Maryland, any grounds for fighting this or getting it dismissed?
The car is somewhat obscured from the street, so he had to be damn near walking from door to door lookin for shit...

Can't do that in FL. We have some old cars here, keep them in the back yard.

I've never heard of them being able to do that, but I don't live in Maryland so. You'd have to ask someone who works in the field or call a lawyer rly quick and ask.

We had antique car registrations in VA. Do you know if your dad's (old) lincoln could qualify as an antique?

Probably due to a neighbor calling in to bitch about the car being there.

If the ticket is called "Expired registration while on private property", and your dad's car had an expired registration while on private property, it sounds like you would have no grounds to fight it. The lawmakers apparently tailor made that category of citation for that situation.

In the US in general, a cop can walk up and down your driveway all he wants and arrest or cite for whatever based upon what he sees in plain view.

Next time, keep your expired tags in the garage or in the backyard. Or just pay your registration fees?

Its not an old Lincoln, its a 2003 town car. I'm just curious if there is anything we could possibly do about it

Our driveway is extended behind the house slightly. Its not a broken down eye sore out for everyone to see. And I doubt any of Hispanic neighbors tattled

Most people either don't, or have so much junk in them there is no room for a car.

This, if you can show that you've resolved the issue and ask the judge to dismiss it, they most likely will. You're not going to be able to go into court and just fight it on the grounds of where they gave it to you.

lol @ some of the people not actually reading. It's not my car, it's my dad's. We don't have a garage, although we do have a huge ass shed in the backyard where the riding mower and other various tools are kept. I live in a neighborhood/street where it was mostly elderly white folk until they started dropping one by one and hispanic folks took their place.

The driveway extends slightly behind the house, the car was obscured by the house on the left and big ass tree on the right for the most part.
But i'll still have him go take care of the shit.

I think each community is different on their laws. I could be wrong and it's State by State. I live in a small town in Southern Illinois and I know you can get ticketed for having an unregistered vehicle that isn't put in a garage or covered. As most people have said, have your dad get registration and they'll dismiss it. Believe it or not, this isn't all that uncommon of a ticket, at least where I live. Just had a friend post some comments on facebook about a similar situation.

if there is no gate or garage, you have no expectation of privacy in your driveway.

Are you saying he doesn't drive this car so he shouldn't have to have it registered? Or are you/he just butthurt you got caught in your own driveway?

Anyway, plain sight, no expectation of privacy, get it registered and try to get the ticket dismissed like a "fix-it" ticket.
