    Hawaii Trip Advice

Looking for suggestions for an upcoming trip (leaving this Saturday) to Waikiki, Honolulu, Hawaii. I'm going for a work related presentation at a conference but I'll have about 6 days to do stuff.

Currently I plan to do some diving and relaxing at the beach at a minimum, going to work on a base tan early on so I can enjoy myself outdoors. I enjoy physical activity, like hiking, swimming, etc. so suggestions related to that are awesome. Doesn't have to be a physical activity though, I enjoy relaxing or walking around interesting places just as much.

Hoping there are natives or people with past trip experience who can give some feedback/information. Thanks in advance!

tl;dr going to Honolulu, suggest cool shit to do?

Each day you should plan to go to a different part of the island for example maybe day 1 go to the North shore check out turtle bay, Polynesian cultural center (its pretty expensive though) and if you go you have to try matsumoto shave ice

Windward side go over the Pali and just enjoy the view but its pretty easy to get lost in kaneohe...

if you go west go to waikele shopping center because its probably the cheapest clothes on the island. If your bored go to the water park.

East Side you have to go to hanauma bay but you have to go early in the morning to find parking, if you want to go to sandys beach sea life park is pretty meh and expensive

Avoid buying shit in waikiki because its exspensive and you can find the same stuff in ala moana or another mall. OH dont go to Waikiki beach because it sucks. most other beaches are cool maybe go to pipe line when you go to north shore.

as for hiking i dont know i dont hike... maybe manoa falls? so that wat 4-5 days?

bug me if you want a list of places to eat.

edit oh go to bishop museum and like visit pearl harbor maybe go downtown and visit iolani palace

Pretty much just a +1, I live out on the west side and there isn't much down here. Pretty much central, east, and north are the main tourist attractions and what not. Honestly I wouldn't even waste time coming out to this side unless you feel like seeing the other side of Mt Kaala and want to drive through Waianae, but don't get out of your car lol just keep driving.

Go to Waikiki beach if you feel like checking out hot bitches. If you feel like swimming, check out these lagoons.

Also you can hike in Diamond Head. You can check out Pearl Habor and shit but i felt like they are ripped off. The chinatown is lame as shit. My parent went there to buy rice during our vacation lol. no joke.

There are shrimp trucks along the North coast. My sister picked up some and they are rocked your mouth.

Rent your own car and drive around. They are fun.

would recommend most of the stuff mentioned above:

    Bishop Museum
    Diamon Head
PCC (Expensive and you have to make a reservation) But we got big discount. Was a great day out though.
Shaved Ice is like a rite of passage when you visit Hawaii

    - Check out the aquarium and zoo, both of which are close to Waikiki beach and you can check out tent city where all the homeless live too otw!
    - Punchbowl cemetary is worth a visit for the views
    - Also take the tour of the Iolani palace and while there you'll see across the road the King Kamehameha Statue and close by is where Hawaii 50 filming is based
    - Moanalua Gardens are worth a visit epscially if you actually take a walk around them and not just take a picture with the Hitachi trees and get back on a bus as the JP tourists do
    - Byodo-In Temple on the Kahekili highway
    - Dole plantation is worth stopping off for a while if you're going around the island
    - Stop off at the blowhole if you're out that way going to somewhere else
    - Go to the magic of polynesia show
    - There's also Sea Life park but it's really for bringing kids for a day out to, it's not exactly sea world but the Dolphin Show is pretty good

    For hiking there's:

    Diamond Head
    Makapuu
    Manoa Falls
    Pali Lookout

For hiking do Manoa Falls, and Diamond Head, there are a lot of places that are dangerous and tend to be off limits bc of the military bases so make sure you stay to real trails, use lots of sunscreen and mosquito spray or you'll be miserable. Waikiki is a tourist trap but the night life there isn't bad, the college should still be in session so there will be a lot of last minute trying to get laid desperately drunk ppl that are headed back to the mainland after a year exchange program. And beware of rowdy military guys, they tend to get pepper sprayed by cops in waikiki. If you shop at the flea market, bargain with ppl, dont buy anything outright its a great way to take home souvenirs.

Do Pearl Harbor. Who cares if it's expensive, Ive been to places that cost more in GA (where i live now) that aren't nearly as impressive. Skip Sea life park they are basically all the same. If you're headed to north shore stop at Dole Plantation, move on get shave ice with azuki beans and mochi balls! (sounds weird but its delicious, you have to approach all the food with an open mind or theres no point in going to hawaii) If you're not a strong swimmer stay out of the water at Sandy's Beach, Waimea Bay and Shark's Cove, there are nasty under currents and even experienced swimmers get dragged out to sea and drown bc they panic.

If you want to try an awesome but small restaurant go to 8 1/2 pasta its in downtown honolulu, and dont be afraid to try lunch wagon food, if you go up the university of manoa there are some great ones right off campus. (try shoyu chicken)

Polynesian Cultural Center is an all day thing, but def fun (once) you get a quick exposure to south pacific cultures, you get your flashy hula, Tahitian, fire dances, and luau in all at once there. Eat poi! (it's not gravy dont make the mistake of pouring it on your rice)
Stop in at Kailua and Lani Kai beaches, go kayaking if you can! Eat lots of fresh sushi, take pictures, make friends with the locals.

This. I was going to post the same thing. Hawaii has the best hiking ever.

Really appreciate all the advice from everyone! Diamond Head mentioned a few times so I'm looking forward to that especially.

Obviously trying to keep his secret Hawaiian Tiki treasure hidden. Don't fall for the misdirection!

Damn you caught me. No but really, the scenery of the mountain range out on the west side is beautiful, but the cities are almost like the ghettos of the island. And I was kind of joking, but really if you do decide to venture past Koolina, don't get out of your car especially to get out and go swimming or something. Tends to be homeless and drug addicts on that side, your car will probably end up getting broken into. Just keep driving until you feel like turning around, maybe stop for some pictures but don't go far lol

This, and if you haven't watched lost, go do so. I've visited several locations and it's a great way to get a feel for Hawaii without going all touristy. When I went to their camp on the beach there was this huge turtle just chilling, it was awesome.

Here's a tour of stuff you can do:

I'm not the Pearl Harbor type so another thing which really sticks in my mind is the "homeless beach" where people just lived in shanties and makeshift shelters on the beach. Pretty interesting to see how they lived.

Could also do the Manoa Cliff trail, kokohead reopened last weekend thats has a pretty nice view once you get to the top. If you are more adventurous try out Waimano Home road trail thats pretty beast but make sure you allow yourself enough time to get in and get out or you'll be camping. It gets rough as you near the summit.

I think the junky fair starts this week too, anyway enjoy yourself!

Oh yea forgot to add Ka'ena Point. Google it, it's pretty and it has a nice beach out that way. I wonder if the medical waste went that far... anyhoot enjoy!
