New or Returning Players Discussion (Or Anything Old FFXI Then Vs. Now)

Just wanted to add a bit of info for anyone reactivating their old account who may have purchased the ultimate collection through Steam or Amazon in order to obtain the extra content. The Square Enix Account Management System can be hard to navigate for anyone new to the system and was used to POL ways of registering addon content so here are the steps to take to add the content after you register everything to the SE account:

Short version: Select Service > Playonline/FFXI > Add a Service Account > Enter Code

1. After logging in, click on "Select Service" on the left menu under "Services and Options"
2. Click on the "Playonline/FFXI" account listed.
3. At the top of the next screen, there will be the FFXI and two buttons to the right of it. Select the "Add a Service Account" option.

Those steps will take you to where you need to go. Most people new to the system would probably go to Options List > Registration Codes because that's what they're trying to enter as was the case with me lol. The problem is that this section only takes you to a screen asking you to purchase new registration codes for the addon content.

Just trying to save someone time if they run into the same problem.

I guess everyone has different opinions on what endgame is. Doing old dynamis and getting your relic armor was probably endgame for some. Ixion sandworm etc aren't endgame no more at 90...that's like camping behemoth or serket at 75 and calling it endgame.

You (turtle) call voidwatch trash, when almost every NM drops something that is better/different than anything you can get in abyssea. You're probably one of those people who brew and solo stuff in abyssea wishing it would always be all about abyssea. Have you even done the new content (VW and NeoDynamis)? I remember so called endgame ls's who never did PW, claiming it wasn't worth their time but it would have been easy if they could fight it, as they claimbotted kings daily.

Have you even seen what stuff sells for, simply because alot of the player base cannot obtain these items except by paying gil. I personally have around 40m gil worth of drops from VW if I chose to sell them. But some of the peices are the best so why sell them right? VW is available for everyone to kill as many times you want, yet why is there so little of the items available for sale. Stuff off tiamat, ixion, sandworm cost alot, simply because the mobs themselves were rare and monoplized. You don't see anyone paying millions for abyssea drops, cause anyone can simply go in and solo the NM for the drop. Good luck soloing VW and dynamis though.

If brews didn't exist, then rani and shinryu would be endgame I suppose. Heck I highly doubt most of the population would even have any twilight gear if there were no brews.

At one point even Sky was considered end-game. And then people found out that you didn't need to kite Genbu or aspir all of Kirin's MP. To some it still may even be end game as some gear there is still essentially good.

Thought you were, but you never know! As for the NMs, I know Ixion has been solo'd, fairly sure I've seen screenshots of Sandworm being solo'd too. Would be impressed if someone has done Tiamat solo.

One BST solo'd Tiamat. Took him a couple craft mules to create dawn mulsum though just to spam and keep the pet alive.
(granted if someone decided to clear out their sack/satchel to stock up, the mules wouldn't be needed)

I'm still baffled as to why SE never put a medicated timer on that med, it's broken if you got the gil/inventory for it.


As for endgame, I just simply consider it "Where you farm your shit for the current lvl-cap", so both Abyssea/Neo-Dynamis/VW fall under that bubble. Sure you could lowman Abyssea, but you could already do that to some extent in prior end-games as well before the cap-raise.

I consider end game the old world content I do after abyssea, and abyssea kind of like...farming I guess. Farm easymode mobs to go use the gear on real mobs that you have to actually try against and can't be retarded with downs, and every mental illness in the universe and kill.

I would suggest trying the Goblin's Rarab in Bibiki Bay. Pops with Hobgoblin Animalier, but don't kill the Animalier or aggro it in any way. Pull the rarab off to the side away from aggro and kill it. This camp is great for BLM 60~66, so I'm sure any level 65 will be just fine.

You can also exchange three of any seal for one seal. So, you could exchange three Beastmen Seals into one Kindred Seal.

So I've just been on a WoW binge with my girlfriend, and Jesus does it makes me want to play FFXI again - so I will!

But there's a few things I need to know that aren't in the first 7 pages of this thread (I think!)

So I played this game forever, did just about everything (stoked to see there's little bonuses in the form of Atma's for all the cool shit we did. :D Sad there isn't one for AV :/) I'm wondering if it's going to be interesting doing Abyssea? Like, I really enjoyed juggling as many or as little of Dyna/Limbus/Sky/Sea/Salvage/Etc. but is all of that irrelevant now?

Does anyone do dynamis or any of those 75 events still? Can I go solo xarc for my RDM hat? Is there a rdm hat with refresh besides that one? XD I see my Morrigan's robe is useless outside of being pretty and being a token of personal accomplishment years ago. <3

Is it worth it to swallow my level 75 days and kick it with you finer folks up at 90 in anticipation of whatever SE brings us for 99? :d

Short answers:
There is an Atma for AV. Atma of Luminous Wings. It's kind of meh. Maybe a decent tanking on though. Don't know.

Abyssea will be fun to begin with, but it doesn't last. It will take anywhere from 1-2 months to max out on it. Maybe less. Maybe more if you do everything in it (like getting an empyrean weapon for example). Just a lot of people low-man it all so there isn't a whole lot of 18+ people events anymore or scheduled events either.

The old content is both relevant and irrelevant. It's also super easy compared to 75. Most gear is replaced by abyssea gear, but a few people go back for a piece or two for min/maxing their sets.

Dynamis is very soloable for gear. I've tossed a few hats. You can sneak and invis inside to get to a camp. Killing the TE statues grants bonuses to items dropping too. As for other hats, I don't know.
Dynamis is 50k to buy the KI to enter and it's a one time buy. You cannot reserve the old Dynamis anymore and other will be in there with you. Repops are extremely quick. Like around 1-2 minutes.

In 4 sessions I completed all AF from Bastok/Sandy/Xarc minus 2-3 peices that just will not show if that helps. My mule who only has WHM leveled has a surcoat. Makes ye olde PLD in me cry.

You can get a Wivre Hairpin in Abyssea- Konschtat with augmented refresh on it. That would be all jobs.

Abyssea is fun and very rewarding, which ironically gets old very fast if you're conditioned to salvage prepatch or w.e. It makes casual play at a higher level feasible which is pretty amazing for most of the player base but can be very irritating at times if you are a srsface grinder (overcrowding etc). I would suggest you do anything/everything you ever wanted to do. I found the new dynamis updates appealing due to the fact you could space play time more evenly between other types of events or w.e (also for making shadow ring feasible while only using 5 chars lol).

I wouldn't say any old content is irrelevant. I enjoyed salvage, dynamis, and even limbus a little up until the end of my days. It's very appealing that a close knit group of friends can literally do anything they want in this game at this point but at the same time it does take all the ZOMGWTF out of capping out on gear or w.e. I know a bunch of people that just casually upgrade relics and mythics now just because they can (I could never do it because I can't understand why you wouldn't rmt the gil, but I was also barely interested in ffxi by the time it got to this point lol).

It's probably the first period in the games history where you can log on and literally have all options available to you.

Majority of content the average player participates in does not warrant needing MB, or a full alliance. I have a group of 4 I work with and including mules we only use a party of 6 for anything in abyssea.

Older content could still put MBs into use I'd imagine.
