Did my first dynamis run today. After the 20minutes spent finding TEs and the 30 min death (no one would res me, typical FFXI people) I managed to get 54 coins. Next time will be much higher since I know what to do now.

A guy on Shiva started brand new over the weekend and I gave him a pearl to my ls. Last time he played was in 07 I think. He stayed online for about 3 hours. He asked sort of what ya'll been asking here and I tried to answer the best I could and with kid gloves as to not overwhelm him. Unfortunately he was so discouraged to learn how this game now. Sometimes I have a hard time looking at things from all others point of view and I guess being online w/someone and in real time seeing how overwhelming it is made me feel ashamed about my earlier comments in this thread.

Yeah, its still a cake walk, but it is essentially pointless now, since the boosts to drop rates on abyssea NM's via the proc system far exceeds any benefit to solo'ing the mob just to be able to keep everything for yourself; also, said mob could likely be killed 5x as quickly with 1 DD and and some temporary items.

well I solo on rdm to just solo on rdm I don't do it for gear I do it for the excitement and exp well at least I did before

The closest thing to endgame is Voidwatch/Providence. Anything resembling old school Dynamis/Limbus/Ein(tab)/Sky/Sea just doesn't exist anymore.

I was under the impression that LSes still run Dynamis and Neo Nyzul, am I wrong?

Also, is the whole of Abyssea content outdated already? Looks like lv.75 players coming back to the game will use those 3 zones just for the grind to lv.99?

Only thing you need a linkshell for in dynamis, is ADL. Neo-nyzul - get a group of friends together. Abyssea isn't outdated as much as the majority of players have finished exping their jobs (at least the jobs they care about) and gotten most of the stuff they need/want from there, so it's a lot quieter than it used to be. But yeah, most of what used to be endgame activities back at 75 cap, is now soloed or lowmanned.

If that is your thing, that is obviously fine--I will go ahead and warn you though that if you try to DoT/kite the NM's in abyssea to death, you will find that many of them have auto-flee/enhanced movement speed. On top of that, although it is your $12.95 a month and you can do what you want, it would also be quite rude to do this since when people go to kill a particular abyssea NM, they go to farm it over and over and over. I am not trying to discourage you at all, just giving you fair warning before someone rages at you for trying to DoT Gukamatz or something.

If it truly isn't for the gear, I would highly recommend something like trying to solo Jormungand, KS99 turtle/behemoth, or old ENM's. They all still drop some neat items, and could provide varying levels of challenge. Like I said, you can do whatever you want, but you'll just avoid some headaches from others by focusing on mobs that aren't very high traffic or are instanced.

Although abyssea is getting a bit older, it certainly is not outdated in the sense that say, Limbus is outdated (nearly completely dead). Something I cannot stress enough to a returning player who quit pre-abyssea is that the overwhelming majority of the gear that will most drastically improve your toon is the full set of AF3+2 from abyssea. If you haven't already, I would highly recommend that you examine the AF3+2 for the jobs you are interested in, examine which NM's drop the "papers" to +1 your AF3, then examine the mobs that drop the relevant items to +2 your gear. As soon as you log in, talk to Joachim/Hoarst in Port Jeuno to get your Traverser stone stock rolling; you should also speak with a Voidwatch officer in one of the three starting cities to begin accumulating voidstones.
Traverser stones let you enter and spend time in abyssea, while voidstones let you participate in voidwatch (a completely different event).

lol. I'm on all day every day until July and I'm doing the best I can and making the most of my time. You're very quick to judge and to me THAT'S very annoying? See what I did? Your post was irrelevant just like this part of THIS post is irrelevant. Keep your feelings to yourself when no one cares about them. Stating that the game feels hard to accomplish anything after returning should yield a response just like Midnight's, not your butt hurt response.

Game did open up a lot after I found some help to get Regen Atmas and got my evasion cap'd on THF. Then I finally broke my Dagger of Trials so now I've got Evisceration so it's becoming more and more easy.

Basically returning requires trial and error and getting used to everything which is very frustrating. Trying to find groups and pops for +2 items now and finish up some random drops from NMs in Abyssea.

Anyone on Ragnarok that can recommend a good shell that does Abyssea often?

If by "outdated" you mean "there are always a billion other people trying to kill the NMs you want any time you are there", then yes it is.

So I received the FFXI: Ultimate edition yesterday in my mail and got a new laptop(ALIENWARE MX-14 - standard model) , I'm currently serving in the U.S. base in Saudi Arabia, maybe I need to change some tools in the system or something. But when I inserted the cd to install PlayOnline, FFXI and all the expansions. And when I double click on Playonline it pops up and after 3 seconds crashes..

Should I download POL from playonline website then install the expansions from the CD disks or what?

Are you positive you uninstalled everything first? That could mess it up.. beyond this though I wouldn't have any idea without actually looking at your machine. I just bought a new laptop last month and had the same issue, the above fixed it though.

Yeah, I uninstalled everything, downloaded POL, tried to run it to see if it worked, but nothing. It still crashes.
