We have a pretty stringent attendance policy. You have 2 days you can miss, after that, -1 point to your final grade (6+ minutes late count as an absence). You have to turn in all assignments. Everyday it's late, -.5 points off your final grade.
Crazy story. Our tests are worth about 50 points each, and assignments/quizzes throughout the semester are worth anywhere from 1 point to 5 points. Needless to say, it's a test heavy course. Well, we had a three page paper due over spring break, and I decided "eh, fuck it, it's only 2 points". I thought the policy was that they take off .5 points to that assignments grade everyday it's late, so the max I'd lose was 2 points. Well, come a week later I find out that they just keep taking points off the final grade til either A. You turn it in, or B. The semester is over. Guess I should have read the grading policy more carefully. Did the assignment, turned it in, and luckily it didn't end up breaking me on my final grade. I just think it's absurd that 3 page papers are worth 2 total points when 2 test questions are equal. I'd have preferred they only graded tests and simply eliminated the bullshit. Or at least make the assignments worth their effort.
