Help me solve a debate. Are there currently cell phones, ipods, blackberries or w/e that allow you to connect to a password protected wifi with out ever knowing or entering the password and be able to use the internet? We are talking stock phones, nothing rooted or broken, just the phone and some random wifi that is password protected and encrypted.
I know my iphone has been able to hop on to the kind where it is "open" but then you have to go to a website and input a password or payment info and used it. As long as I don't open mobile safari on those, everything works fine until I visit that website, then it shuts it down.
If rooted/jailbroken you could theoretically install an app that could attempt to brute force hack a password for a wifi. Obviously such apps would not be approved in official stores.
I've never seen one, but I wanted to make sure that wasn't what people were referring to if there was something because that clearly was not what she was talking about.
Not a terrible idea, it'll help me vent a little, lol.
One of my roommates, myself and her were walking to get some foods. My roommate had just picked up a new ipod and was excitedly typing out a text on it. I mentioned to my roommate that she couldn't send the text until we got near a open wifi (I figured she knew, but I wanted to mention something to be safe). My roommate said she knew that. The woman in question asked why she wouldn't be able to make the text, and I said it's unlikely we'll find an open wifi in the neighborhood we were in. She then proceed to explain how she can connect to wifi on her phone with out needing to enter the any passwords. I said, that's great for open wifi's, but that won't work on password protected wifi's like the ones in the area we were in. She then begins to state that her phone can connect to private wifi connections with out needing to enter a password.
The next few minutes was me being a complete ass about how wrong she was and her getting pissed off and refusing to budge on her position. So I told her if she's so sure she is right she should put her money where her mouth is. I've actually bet against her on several occasions and she made the bets before. This time however she just got furious and started throwing a hissy fit about how I wouldn't let it go and I was rude for pointing out the fact she was factually wrong. Which diverged into a tirade about how she thinks I don't care about her feelings, which in all honestly I don't, but it had little to do with the subject at hand.
Unrelated, and if you're just interested in the wifi question you can skip this.
If you want a little history of why she of all people gets more upset at me then most people, I have to go back a little. I'm the type of person that says the most offensive things to the people hang out with. I always say it sarcastically, never with any real intent, but it's still things that most people likely wouldn't say to people they consider friends. This is my filter for the people that I'm ok hanging out around. If you get offended easily, you aren't likely someone I care to hang around. My personal feelings on the matter are if there is something that you are offended by, that wasn't said with the intent to offend, that's your issue and not the other persons. If someone said it with the intent to offend you, how you take it is up to you. However if someone says it as a joke or in parody I don't think people should get worked up over it. I personally feel anyone that does is looking for a reason to be upset, ipso facto, has a small penis.
So, I've called all my gay friends fags, my black friends nigger, my female friends cunt, my Japanese friends Korean, my Latin American friends Mexican, my white friends different things depending on what they are most insecure about, domestic abuse jokes, ect ect. As a result, when you are at a party at my place, you never ever have to worry about offending anyone, which results in some of the funniest and most disturbing conversations you'll ever hear. (Having a flash back to a guy from Argentina who had never heard of 2girls1cup blurting out 'I want to be the cup' with no understanding of what we were talking about) Come to think of it, this is pretty much the same way I ran NineInchNinjas as well, we did lose applicants because of our profane and politically incorrect discourse.
With that prologue out of the way, this girl gets offended by a few words. Why she selectively takes offense to things is in my opinion hypocritical, but that's another issue. She hates the word cunt as expected, but she also gets offended at the word retard. I would generally prefer not to hang around people like this, but because of circumstances I have to put up with her from on a regular basis. With that said, I'm not the best at censoring myself when I'm with adults. So naturally she gets pissed off at me. However, my point made in the post above stands. I think she's one of those people that looks for reasons to be offended. Case in point, I had a friend come over who in earshot of her used the word retard, however he was actually using the word to describe something being physically slow, not as the slang term everyone normally uses. We explained to her that he was using it in the non-offensive context, after which she proceeded to explain how we shouldn't use that word even in that context. It would be like getting angry at people who use the word fag when talking about a cigarette. She just kept saying that's how she feels and she has a right to feel that way. I kept explaining that this is exactly why we shouldn't let the offended get to set the criteria for what is offensive when no offense is intended. Needless to say it ended with neither side budging and this is the exact reason why I prefer hanging out with people who don't take offense to shit.
