POL crash on new computer.

I think i have a serious problem and need some help. I bought a new computer and after installing FF11 and POL i keep getting a crash after the splash screen. I don't get any error codes just that there was a problem and the Playonline viewer has stopped working.

Steps I have taken:

1. Downloaded playonline for windows 7 from the site.
2. Turned the UAC off.
3. Read as many forums I can for similar issues.
4. Tried to start it in a previous windows version.
5. Tried to change the video drivers.

And a few more steps.

THe problem with the video drivers is it seems that my specific model video card (Nvidia GeForce GT 550M) doesn't support the older 260 series drivers, only 270 and up so I can't roll back to the listed driver from POL. Also when i change the playonline folder to be not Read only, it changes back after i apply settings. No matter what i do POL won't load. Pleeeeeeeeeeease help me out.

When you downloaded the new POL from SE's site, did the new installer uninstall the old version? The problem you're describing sounds just like the problem that would occur when you try to run the old POL on a Vista/Seven system. I'd uninstall POL and reinstall the new version and see if something didn't get corrupted in the process.

When he says "new computer" I'd assume that means there was not a previous of POL already installed on it.

Ya but I don't think you can install FFXI using the new POL can you? I think on my old discs it would say it didn't recognize POL so I had to install everything from the discs, then uninstall POL and reinstall the new version. It has been a while though so my memory could be wrong.

I am having the same problem on a Nvidia GeForce GT 555M with POL not responding when I try to load it up. Installed with the link on the POL website

Have you tried both with and without Windower, and with the Windower 4 alpha?

nVidia has had some terrible problems with XI, I wouldn't put a bad driver out of the question. I couldn't get PoL itself to load without using the Windower4 alpha before.
