This is the best solution, although the BLU thread doesn't have a decent OP. Even subforums based on roles is likely overkill and kind of pointless. Name a job that can't "tank". And one of the threads on the main listing already is a WHM melee thread so yeah, roles...

This is all hypothetical and based on an OP keeping on top of their thread. If someone does that, then it could definitely help the forums and more specifically the RQT and What's Better threads. "What's the best NIN TP set?" "What daggers should I use?" "What's a good Ukon WS set?" "How do I x-hit?" You see the same questions every few pages. A lazier solution would be to link a BG wiki page in a job thread OP and then rely on the masses to update it like that. At any rate, there's potential for good here, but effort needs to get put forth.

I don't think having a few maybe advanced topics to some kind of job discussion would be bad (like how there's already one for blu, melee whm, etc) but separate job forums is still a completely laughable idea.

Personally I think its a great idea, I mean it's not like ffxi has a lot of jobs:
Technically it would only be as follows

    Ninja forum
    Warrior forum
    Monk forum
    White Mage forum
    Blue Mage forum
    All other forum

But aren't you still hoping someone comes across your question and answering it?

and 2. the people that are knowledgable to job issues, whether it be equipment or mechanics would have an easier way to get the information to those intended to see it.

We all know how unreceptive the BG forum readers are to new posts in advanced.
Job Issues? I mean what is a job issue? Best x-hit? Best WS set? How do I actually play DRG?

    Job forums:
    * Become stagnant, outdated.
    * Are typically only viewed by people with those jobs, so responses for say... dancer, might be sporadic.
    * Really clutter shit up fast.

    Random question thread:
    * Have fun keeping track of where you posted in it.
    * Get infuriated when it updates with info unrelated to what you asked.
    * If your post ends up at the end of a page, it doesn't get much attention.

Compromise (at least, my idea of it):
    Random XI Questions Forum.
    * No restrictions on gameplay questions, post "Haub or Aurore Doublet", "+3 Haste vs +5 DW", "Dancer vs Scholar" etc.
    * Fast automatic prune time of 60 days, to keep content fresh.

I'm not a big fan of job/server specific forums. Usually they don't generate enough new threads to justify their existence and they get ignored. Then a handful of no-lifers who like to internet argue settle in to squat there. Maybe something more broad could work and not rot in between updates. Like for example make one subforum for ALL frontline type jobs, and a second for ALL support type jobs. Then make one job specific thread in each subforum.

That's exactly what makes the rqt so good.

I occasionally find myself feeling annoyed when I see a question asked for the 3rd time in 2 pages. Thing is, I immediately think to myself "Wait, that's exactly the point. I don't have to search through 50 billion pages and see if my question has been answered somewhere else. I just ask and hope for an answer."

Job forums would only really be nice for stickies to quickly find resources without needing to post in the RQT. As far as discussion goes I think it's better to just have it all in one place.

This is essentially the main reason I suggested it. Having JS Threads works too if there is an active OP update. Problem is not everyone is up for actively updating an OP. I'd be willing to update with information posted on say MNK, but since my questions are FOR MNK I'd likely only be there as an update whore and not providing actual info (which I guess is still fine). Maybe we should collaborate a group of people willing to maintain JS Threads? I'm sure someone like Draylo or Yugl or jimbobsonofgod could be put up to the task of reconsolodating the BLU thread for example (provided they'd be up for it).

Maybe splitting up the random question thread into 2-3 specific random questions?

    Like:

Random Abyssea Question thread (Thoguh we once upon a time had an abyssea thread that has descended into the depths of wherethefuckdiditgo?)
Random Job Specific Question thread (No gear questions, more for stuff like "What spells are good to use for my blu at xx level?")
    Random Question thread general

Best bet would be to look through random threads and see what types of question gets asked the most. If we could at least split the thread up into 3-4 chunks I think it'd make wading through all the info much easier to read.

Moving discussion into 20 different forums potentially limits the flow of information. I'm less inclined to browse job-specific threads, especially for jobs I play less or don't play at all, than I am to simply read every post in RQT, What's Better, and the handful of other threads I keep up with, answering anything I can along the way and potentially picking up useful information in the process. I'd guess others do the same.

Just address the real problem at hand: How can BG organize the fountain of knowledge that is geared to specific jobs?

I believe the tools needed are already implemented. Just keep the wiki page for each job up to date with the relevant posts that are discussed here. There is no need to retrofit a forum software for what is essentially a problem that a content management system should be handling.

Have a section of different gear sets, formulas for the various spells, WS and abilities. Have a section for spell cast scenarios. I could go on.

This. Having everything in one places means there is less searching going about, and increases the chances of someone stumbling upon useful information that they may not have expected to find. Job-specific forums just lead to circle-jerks and the inbreeding of ideas, which is not always a good thing.

I still like the idea of Mage/DD/Tank forums with appropriate job topics in each but allowing tanking and strats for specific NM's to be in the same forum.

Aside from the lack of an OP update the BLU thread is supposed to be doing pretty well. Don't see why this wouldn't work for other jobs.

Proposed MNK thread to start things off if people think it's a good idea.

In an effort to better organize and provide information to the community I am attempting a trend of Job Specific Threads to coincide with the already existing BLU and WHM threads.

    ○MONK

Noob to 90 Monk Information or 'How I shot Abyssea?':
Maat Fight: (Do we still need this? lol)
    Gear Suggestions:
    Empyrean Armor (+1 and +2):
    Tanking:
    Cataclysm Burns:
    Magian Trials:
    Lowman Strategies:
    Spellcast XMLs:
    Atma Discussion:
    Mathy Parts: (links)

I will update this when the information above starts flowing in. Also looking for suggestions of things to add or change to the list. I will update this as much as possible sans real life interference (work/gf/alcohol).

I'd be in favor of something more like this. A monk tanking in abyssea would post in the tank section, DD's, whether in aby or not, would use the DD section.

The random question thread could still be useful, for things like "Can I lowman XX with YY ?"
