(And I thought I used inferior settings...)
Shit works fine the way it is. If someone really wants to write a great job specific guide just do it and upload it to wiki. The reason I feel BLU is unique is because of the spell learning, wide variety of gear sets, and figuring modifiers out. Posting a question in a job specific forum is likely to be answered by 1-2 sweet bro dudes who think they're hot shit at the job, and not seen by the 20 other players who have 9 different jobs leveled and only check the main advanced forum and RQT.
Prove us all wrong though, start a MNK thread and keep it up to date!
If people help submit stuff to me to update with I'd gladly do it.
The reason why we don't have job-specific forums is because they're fucking retarded. If you want the long-form answer, the reason why we don't have job-specific forums is because they are completely fucking retarded.
and the truth shall set you freeeee
I support it. This forum is just a bunch of random cluster fuck of threads. It would make it more organized and people could get updated information and advice on jobs a lot easier.
As others have said, job specific forums in this day and age are mostly unnecessary and serve to spread out the good information that does get posted. At times the rqt can be a bit tedious, and I like the idea of splitting it up into different categories but job specific forums would be complete overkill. Also, lol@ baiting isla, who is easily one of the most entertaining posters on this site.
Mostly all the more basic stuff is already covered by looking up factual information, which is readily available elsewhere anyway, and by playing the game with half a brain.
People need to take some initiative in finding out things for themselves, you don't need to come and post questions on every little thing. Testing shit out for yourself is part of the fun in playing.
That being said, if you want an in-depth answer to something, and you're not getting a reply on the threads, there's probably a good reason for it.
There are plenty of informative people who post on BG, if all else fails find one who seems to be knowledgable, and try a PM. I'm sure most are wiling to help, if you approach them politely.
If the rqt thread is such a bother why not find a way to add tags to posts for easier searches?
Clusterfuck of threads?
There are 11 threads that have been posted in today, not including stickies.
There are 16 threads that havent been posted in today, but have been posted in within the 6 days prior.
There are 17 threads that were posted in the week prior to that.
And this is kind of a strong period of new information as the last big patch was actually done two weeks ago, and there was also a mid-tier patch last week (granted it didnt add anything, it changed a couple things).
Exactly and every thread has like 50+ pages, many are like 2-3 years old. Who wants to look through old outdated information? Plus most of the time its like the same 3 people talking in the thread all responding to each other. This forum is a bunch of old worn out threads. This website is the only place where there could actually be some good information and discussion about jobs. All the other FFXI websites with forums are dead.
A good compromise might be 1 Sub-Forum in which each Job and Role has a single thread.
The only reason it would be in a Sub-Forum at all is so Advanced doesn't suddenly get 24 new threads to clutter shit up.
Only job forums setup I would approve of would be an elitistjerks.com style forum. Thankfully, SE made jobs so simplistic and mostly unified that those type of forums would be basically worthless. We don't need them, nor have we ever really needed them.
I went to the BLU thread and searched for the following:
whisker exp
charged whisker exp
charged whisker burn
I got, for each, a huge amount of results, some dating back since before the cap was raised..and of the most relevant..none had the information I was looking for.
It's not always easy to just search for what you want. Sometimes you have to repeat the same question for the 50th time in hopes it doesn't get skipped over.
