I don't remember anything conclusive from the Abyssea Lights thread -- any recommendation for appropriate amber light level to focus on Dark Rings & Wivre Hairpins in Abyssea - Konschtat?

No one has conclusive evidence about what is best, to my knowledge. If you don't have enough amber to get big golds, you can get multiple augmented items in each chest and won't get any key items. This would seem like the logical path to take but then again I don't think I know of anyone that got 6/6 rings or refresh hairpins without big golds so I suppose its possible that you need top tier chests to get top tier augments?

Top tier amber and azure starts around 120-128 so if you want big golds get your amber to 255 and your azure to 128. This will ensure a better ratio of gold:blue pyxides and still allow you to get time chests. If you want small golds then stop around 110 or so amber and 128 azure to try to keep the ratio relatively close while still getting time chests.

There is no need for a BRD for Indrik. I 2box this thing regularly; drop apoc atma in favor of cloak and dagger (or that other eva atma that's better which I don't have yet) and TP in an evasion set. The thing is a joke in this manor and won't even scratch you. Lances never did more than 1.9k and I never even bother swapping to MDT set for it; only does a few, maybe 3 or 4 in the whole fight because it rarely gets enough TP.

Now I'm confused, 1.9k? When I tried it on Mnk with Shell V and such they started hitting me for 2600 and went up pretty fast to 3k+ before I finally died. I never tried Eva set, next time I'll give an evasion set a try (no cloak and dagger though :/).

I think it is perhaps because you let the fight drag on too long? Or maybe each time it uses it, it gets more powerful? I have no idea but yeah mine never broke 2k from what I can remember. Cloak and Dagger isn't the only one that works. There is Siren Shadow which does essentially the same thing and several others. If you're still having problems with lance then use an MDT set. My first Indrik I used MDT and it made the lances nearly negligible but when I let a few slip without swapping it on and saw that they were a joke as well, I stopped bothering.

Edit: I forgot to add, if you're doing this with other people make sure they don't pull hate. It TPs everytime it moves around which could be why it got messy fast for you?

Dont use evasion or pdt on mnk for this fight. Just go straight DD. The only thing that sucks is when it gets flash aura and you get smacked a lot. Just pop stalwarts/champions and 2hr to get it down faster. Then ride counterstance/perfect counter. RR/GH/apoc and go to town. done it countless times like this. and maybe have failed once or twice due to him spamming flash aura and me not killing fast enough.

I'd venture to say it would be impossible to fail using evasion with a monk and a white mage. No need for two hour, no need for any temps at all. Only JAs that I use are counterstance, dodge, and focus. Dies in about ten minutes or so with a verethragna so the trade-off would be kill speed for safety.

Well it looks like I have some new strategies to try anyways, thanks everyone for the advice. As far as letting the fight drag on, I'm talking right as I pull it it opens with a lance that usually breaks 2.5k. Maybe once it builds up lance damage, it stays that way until a reset?

I'm really not sure. Try using an MDT set if its too much for you to handle.

2box with mnk/war and CS up? also what kind of gear and atma do you use when you do it this way, also food if any.

MNK/WAR with CS 2boxing a WHM/THF. For Indrik I use GH/RR/Cloak+Dagger, don't usually bother with food for it. For gear in this fight, I TP in an evasion set which is: Optical Hat(yes hammerblow hates me), Torero Torque, Elusive Earringx2, Usukane Haramaki, Ocelot Gloves, Alert and Heed Rings, Boxer's Mantle, Black Belt, Ocelot Trousers, and Usukane Sune-ate. Not full on evasion set, but close enough. Use dodge when it's up as his accuracy is not completely floored using this set but it is close. I swapped to -MDT gear for TP moves on my first fight but haven't bothered since.

Thanks for the tips. I've been doing this with Charged Whisker, so azure caps eventually. If light ratio directly determines chest color ratio, sounds like my options are to cap amber & have a decent gold:blue split with no small golds, or leave amber around 110 and deal with fewer gold chests. Guess I can try small golds for awhile, then increase amber if it sucks.

You will want large gold chest if you are after good rings and a refresh pin. But if you are farming the rings to npc for gil, then stick with enough amber to produce a good ratio of gold chests without popping large golds.

If you're going to cap azure then for sure cap amber too. You'll see a ridiculously small amount of golds if you have only capped azure.
