BST can probably solo all your seals for AF+1 at least, but you may need some atmas first. Don't know much about BST but they can solo the majority of lesser NMs at 90 I believe.

For getting other stuff one of you will probably have to level WHM at least.

My wife and I just returned after a year long break, and it seems like a bit has changed. Is there any combination of BST/WAR/COR and BST/SMN/SAM that can duo most of the gear we'd need to be competent? Or are we just going to want to suck it up and level NIN/MNK and a WHM?

Pet jobs are very powerful but the issue comes with procing (read this http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Weakness_Targeting) In fact if you love BST and SMN you'll have a field day.

Other than for extra stuns, what are the applicable reasons to use BLM sub on WHM in Abyssea if any? RDM too if any? I'm trying to do as little leveling on my mule as possible, but I'll get certain subs leveled if I have a good reason.

Only thing I can think of is widening your Dark procs for grellow. You can get Aspir/Drain/Dispel with /SCH, Aspir/Drain/Bio2 with /BLM and Dispel/Bio2 with /RDM.

Honestly, go with /SCH.

Probably in terms of Steam, yes.

In terms of what's happening on the levelling front, a few things have changed very recently so don't worry too much. Levels 1-30 you can solo now with no xp loss and tons of ways of boosting xp. You've probably found Fields of Valor already but very recently they've brought in Grounds of Valor. Which allows you to team up in alliances to do pages for xp which when completed give you random buffs.

Once you hit 30, the focus tends to switch to Abyssea. Because the xp is so immensely fast/high inside abyssea low level characters tend to beg places in alliances to use their cruor to buy forbidden keys and open the sea of chests which drop from mobs there so that others can keep on killing. However quite a few people are enjoying Grounds of Valor now and you can do this to high level so joining an Abyssean alliance isn't quite as necessary as it once was. Its useful if you don't want to or can't spend hours in an Abyssea party.

Also you'll find that the xp you get per mob is now a lot higher. Even from EP/DC mobs.

Fair enough. BLM sub it is. I may get SCH eventually leveled if I need to assist an LS with the WHM for bigger fights/events, but for now BLM shall do then. I already have MM atma. While we're on that subject..what are the other 2 I need for a mule?

mules with low cure potency best to full time rescuer / mm / ambition TBH lots of fast cast is nice too

There are two kinds of gear you get from abyssea:
- Yellow proc is any AF3 armor seals
- Blue proc is any other Rare or R/EX gear in abyssea
In order to duo NMs (which is very much possible even with your jobs (pets)) you would need proper atmas and abyssites. I remember quite successfully duoing NMs for AF3 seals (Scars Abyssea) as THF/NIN and BST/WHM back in the days when it came out. Having a THF in party pretty much guarantees you will get 1 AF3+1 seal from kill. Getting yellow proc from magic gets you ~2-3 seals from each kill on average.
To efficiently farm your items I’d say you’ll need minimum:
Yellow: tank+BLM
Blue: MNK+healer (WHM preferable)
If you don’t have at least BLM for yellow, you will be wasting a lot of time, both abyssea stones and your RL time. If you don’t have MNK for blue proc, you’ll be going 1/10-20 on NM drops, with MNK during blunt time it’s 80%+ droprate, often 1/1.
My best advice would be: join shout runs and see how other people do it, especially since without any key item buffs you’ll get 1-shotted by many NMs. In comparison, a BST or SMN with proper buffs (atma/abyssites) can solo any Vision/Scar T1 NM in 5-10min.

Yes, the latest combopack code will unlock everything so far (3x miniexp, 3x abyssea) but you can't go back and make a new account with just Vanilla + RotZ + ToAU + WotG that you "didn't use".

Depends on whether you want easy or "best" piece. Easiest: Legs>Hat>Body>Feet>Hands; Best varies with what you're doing. I won't bother detailing that since every piece serves a purpose.

No. Someone in the old thread found that you parry about 5% of the time regardless of skill level.

It will, all the individual expansions have separate codes. I have like 3 ultimate collections and only used one or two codes from each one.

I only got one cd key from steam, but it did work to unlock the addon content I didn't have.
