Sent it to a friend on MSN who responded with "I'd hit that." until I told him who it was... LOL

this isn't it, right?![]()
Saw someone mention Wakfu. Ftr, SE is only publishing/managing it. Ankama developed it as a spinoff of their anime and their pre vious mmo, Dofus.

TLR didn't sell too badly, I think it sold a little under 1m, which is pretty decent all things considered (no PS3 version, new IP and an attempt at something new in terms of game systems. I saw little to no advertising for it either, so it had no hype behind it). Duodecim didn't sell nearly as well as the first, but it's anything but a failure. Most of the game is recycled content from the first, so it had an extremely short development time and little in the way of new things developed for it. Very little in the way of new lines for the old cast and only a handful of new characters.
People really overreact with just how "bad" SE has gotten, or how much they're failing. Yeah, they fucked up with XIV big time. XIII gets criticized a lot by some, but it was a massive success in terms of sales and it got good reviews. People are delusional if they think one commercial failure is enough to kill them. Hell, they continue to make lazy as hell ports of their old game and get tons of sales on them. I can only imagine the kind of profit they make on shit like the FF1 and 2 ports for PSP.
I would love for the next FF to return to the open world free to travel as you like type FF. FFIX was made unfortunately the last of that kind![]()
Even Crystal Bearers should have been a much bigger commercial failure than it actually was.

Saved the day.
duodecim actually did rather well. i mean.. maybe not too great by itself, but its a fighter in the same vein as say SF4 with Super SF4. They work with the same base engine and stuff, throw in a bunch of new characters, functions and skins and its a 'new' game. Relatively low dev cost so its a profit-spinner a lot faster...
Just like what XIII-2 is gonna be, only thing is it won't be that much of a rehash and development costs are scaled higher..
I believe this 3rd MMO is most likely a casual/cutesy one instead of a serious looking one... Like, SEs answer to maple story or something.. but (hopefully) better
edit:1 commercial failure is enough depending on which basket they put their eggs in. FF:TSW nearly became that one big commercial failure that sank Square, but Sony (being a principal shareholder of Square with vested interest) made sure this didn't happen.
FFVII was also a make or break game for Square. Had it failed, they'd have sunk in spite of the successes of 1-6 because of the relatively huge development costs.
Fortunately for XIV, Square Enix is nowhere near that kind of position anymore with a much more diversified "portfolio"
Man, I loved the crystal chronicle games. The original sat right next to PSO in terms of awesome multiplayer gaming way back in my GC days.
If they made some variety of Crystal chronicles game on Cafe (Or maybe it's a CC MMO :squeel: ) I'd be all.fucking.over it.
Edit: Also, I'm still waiting on my Ivalice MMO, that stupid april fools joke from way back whet my apetite so damn bad.
No one on the forums worth being listened to is arguing that SE is in trouble because of XIII or Dissidia. They're arguing that a company as big as SE cannot effortlessly stay in the black by only releasing a winner here and there (even if its cheap to produce, like Dissidia or the handheld ports) when countless other titles fall by the wayside and out-and-out fail.
SE isn't Nintendo. The "FF" brand is not the same as "Mario" brand. If SE was doing everything right and everything was peachy keen golly gee wiz, then the SE profit thread wouldn't have been created. Moreover, people have a right to be skeptical or even worried about this new SE MMO. They're 1 and 1 for actual released MMOs in terms of quality, with at least 2 that were scrapped either early in development or changed to single player, then scrapped. I'd say people have a right to have at least a little doom and gloom in regards to SE based on how the company has handled itself within the last decade.
Yes, yes, XIII sold well. Yes, I have a copy downstairs. But shit, I also have a copy of XIV. Its a thin line between making money and losing tons. How much profit did SE pull in from XIII (factor in development costs, advertising, ect.)? How much has it lost in the development process of XIV? I'd like to see those numbers stacked up.
Somewhere in between three fitty and over nine thous...!
